Job Overview: We’re looking for a hands-on Shift Skills Development Manager to lead and develop a team of 12–18 Manufacturing Operatives. In this role, you’ll spend around 60% of your time providing on-the-job skills training, ensuring our people are equipped to meet current and future manufacturing requirements. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive leader who is passionate about coaching, continuous improvement, and building high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and develop Manufacturing Operatives, Production Technicians and Quality Technicians to achieve production targets.
- Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring full compliance with all H&S procedures and PPE requirements.
- Assess training needs and competency levels across the shift, identifying skill gaps and development priorities.
- Create and deliver tailored training plans to upskill team members.
- Ensure full adherence to all company policies, procedures and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date operational information within the Factory Master system.
- Work collaboratively with other Shift Skills Development Managers, ensuring clear and comprehensive handovers to maintain consistent production across shifts.
- Provide timely and accurate reports on team activities and operational performance.
Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience within a manufacturing environment (essential).
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, coach and develop a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good numeracy, literacy and IT skills (including spreadsheets and word processing).
- A positive “can-do” attitude with strong time-management skills.
- Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable driving continuous improvement in a changing environment.
