Complex Care Support Worker – 2 : 1 Package (24 Hour Support)

About Unicare Complex Care Specialist

Unicare delivers specialist complex care and supported living services across the South of England. We support individuals with autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs and complex behaviours using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma‑informed care and person‑centred practice.

About the Client

You will support a young adult male with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Learning Disability
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Anxiety and emotional regulation needs

He communicates using symbols, gestures, signing and written words and responds best to:

  • Predictable routines
  • Low arousal environments
  • Consistent staff relationships
  • Structured activity planning

He enjoys swimming, community activities, technology (iPad), puzzles and familiar TV shows. Support is required to maintain safety and stability due to behaviours that may include self‑injury or aggression when anxious or overwhelmed. This package requires consistent, relationship‑led support.

Support Package Overview

This is a 2 : 1, 24 hour support package including:

  • 2 : 1 daytime support for all activities
  • Waking night + sleep‑in during transition periods
  • Community support, personal care, emotional regulation and behavioural support
  • Full PBS and risk management framework

The staffing model ensures safety, learning and independence development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Living & Personal Care – personal care and hygiene support, meal preparation and nutrition monitoring, medication support (if trained)
  • Behaviour & Emotional Support – following PBS strategies, low arousal de‑escalation approaches, supporting sensory regulation activities, maintaining predictable routines
  • Community & Independence – swimming and leisure activities, community access and travel support, education / structured learning support, social interaction and engagement
  • Safety & Risk Management – following behaviour support and risk plans, supporting safe environments, recording incidents and behaviours accurately

Clinical & Specialist Elements

Staff must be comfortable supporting:

  • Autism and sensory regulation needs
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Emotional distress and anxiety triggers
  • Communication via symbols / signing / visual aids. Support plans include structured routines, sensory breaks and low arousal communication approaches.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in care
  • Experience supporting Autism or Learning Disabilities
  • Confident managing behaviours of concern
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Calm under pressure
  • Team working skills (2 : 1 working essential)

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • PBS Training
  • MAPA / PMVA / CPI
  • Trauma Informed Care
  • Makaton / communication aids experience
  • Complex care experience

Unicare will provide training and competency sign off.
