This is not a supported living service where people potter about and staff fill in paperwork. The people we support have complex needs, and several have arrived here after placements elsewhere broke down. We are looking for a manager who can hold that, and build a team that can hold it too. Unicare is a CQC-registered, nurse-led provider of supported living, community outreach and complex care. We support adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and behaviours that others find challenging, across nine supported living services in Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire and South London.

As Registered Manager you will hold legal accountability for the quality and safety of your service. You will lead the team, own the standard of support, and be the person the regulator, the commissioner and the family all look to. You will have a Head of Care above you, clinical support from our nursing and PBS team, and a housing arm that owns and maintains the properties but the service is yours.

What you will do

  • Lead and manage one or more supported living services, holding CQC registration for the regulated activity.
  • Take accountability for the quality and safety of support, and for compliance with the fundamental standards.
  • Recruit, develop and retain a team and manage performance honestly when it falls short.
  • Ensure every person supported has a current, person-centred support plan, risk assessment and, where needed, a positive behaviour support plan that the team actually follows.
  • Lead safeguarding within the service, make statutory notifications, and apply the duty of candour.
  • Reduce restrictive practice, and ensure every restriction that remains is lawful, planned, recorded and reviewed.
  • Manage rotas, agency use, occupancy and the service budget.
  • Work with tenants, families, advocates, commissioners, health teams and our housing arm on the things that make a tenancy sustainable.

What you will bring

  • Substantial experience managing or deputising in supported living, residential or community services for adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs or complex behaviour.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or equivalent or be working towards it.
  • Current CQC registration as a Registered Manager, or the experience and willingness to register.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, CQC regulation and positive behaviour support.
  • The judgement to know when to escalate and the confidence to do it early.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

What we offer

  • A nurse-led organisation where clinical judgement sits alongside operational management, not underneath it - you will not be left to manage complexity on your own.
  • Clinical support from an Advanced Practitioner, a Clinical Complex Case Manager and an in-house training team.
  • A separate housing and facilities function, so you are managing care rather than chasing repairs.
  • Funded qualifications, CPD and management development.

We particularly welcome applications from managers who have turned a struggling service around, and from experienced deputies ready to make the step up with proper support behind them. To apply, send your CV and a short covering note. Unicare Complex Care Specialist Ltd is an equal opportunities employer. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check with Adults Barred List, satisfactory references, and the fit and proper persons requirements of Regulation 19. We are committed to safeguarding adults and children.
