Want to shape the tax strategy behind some of Northern Europe’s most recognised destinations? We’re looking for a Tax Director, Northern Europe to join our Group Tax function. This is a high-profile opportunity to provide senior tax leadership across the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, combining deep UK tax expertise with regional oversight and commercial influence.
You’ll take ownership of the UK tax process end to end, coordinate external tax advisers across Northern Europe, and provide practical guidance on major transactions and business decisions. Working closely with regional Finance teams, Group Tax and senior business stakeholders, you’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact across the region.
If you enjoy combining technical depth with commercial judgement, building trusted relationships and creating clarity in a complex environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Why this role matters
Tax plays a critical role in protecting the business while enabling commercial and transactional activity across Northern Europe. In this role, you’ll establish clear ownership, governance and oversight of tax obligations, risks and deadlines across the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. You’ll ensure outsourced tax activity is effectively managed, information provided to external advisers is accurate and complete, and tax reporting, compliance and audit requirements are delivered to a high standard.
You’ll also act as a trusted adviser to Finance and the wider business, bringing clear, commercially focused tax insight to transactions, projects and strategic decisions.
What you’ll be getting involved in
No two days will look exactly the same, but you’ll spend your time:
- Leading the Northern Europe tax agenda across the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, ensuring alignment with Group tax strategy, governance and risk requirements.
- Owning the UK tax process end-to-end, including compliance, reporting, forecasting, audits and the oversight of outsourced tax activity.
- Providing senior tax input and sign-off for real estate transactions, corporate activity, commercial agreements, financing and restructuring opportunities.
- Advising on UK property taxation, the UK REIT regime, transfer pricing, financing structures and Corporate Interest Restriction considerations.
- Coordinating external tax advisers and local specialists across the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.
- Reviewing and challenging information and outputs to ensure local obligations, filing requirements and deadlines are understood and met.
- Working closely with regional Finance, Statutory Accounts, Group Tax, Investment, Development, Asset Management, Leasing and Legal teams.
- Leading relationships with external advisers, auditors, joint venture partners and relevant tax authorities.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and translating their impact into clear, practical guidance.
- Improving regional tax controls, documentation and ways of working, creating greater consistency while respecting local requirements.
What we’re looking for
We’re not looking for someone who ticks every single box. What matters most is that you bring the technical credibility, commercial judgement and leadership needed to make a real contribution.
You’ll enjoy this role if you:
- Have significant post-qualification experience in a senior tax role, with deep expertise in UK corporate and real estate taxation.
- Combine strong technical knowledge with practical, commercially focused judgement.
- Are comfortable taking ownership of complex tax reporting, forecasting, audit and compliance processes.
- Can translate complex tax matters into clear guidance for senior and non-tax stakeholders.
- Build trusted relationships and influence confidently across countries, functions and levels.
- Know when to challenge, when to escalate and how to use external expertise effectively.
- Are highly organised and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines across a regional remit.
- Bring curiosity and look for ways to improve governance, controls, processes and outcomes.
It would be great if you also bring:
- An ACA, CTA or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
- Strong working knowledge of UK tax law, UK tax compliance and the UK REIT regime.
- Experience advising on complex real estate transactions, structuring, restructuring and property-related tax matters.
- Experience overseeing outsourced tax service delivery across multiple jurisdictions.
- Practical exposure to Dutch, Swedish or Danish tax matters.
- Experience within listed real estate, property investment, development or another transaction-led environment.
- Experience working with joint ventures or cross-border financing structures.
- Experience improving tax governance, controls or outsourced operating models across multiple countries.
