Role Purpose

This role requires hands‑on development expertise, proven leadership capability, along with a strong customer and product focus and commercial awareness. It is an excellent opportunity to take on a strategic position within a market‑leading organisation, with significant scope for professional growth, influence, and exposure across the wider business. You will be a self‑starter, with a 'can do' attitude who has experience making technical decisions that drive projects and raise the bar. As the senior manager in the Glasgow office, the role will provide oversight and support to the wider local team, fostering a culture of collaboration and acting as the key liaison between the Glasgow office and the wider business.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the high‑quality design and delivery of industry leading, scalable and innovative software solutions for our customers, driving technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Owning end‑to‑end delivery of interoperability and integration across all environments.
  • Evaluating, documenting and championing solutions, tools and improvements, ensuring cutting edge development across teams.
  • Taking ownership for ensuring awareness of, and compliance with, all quality processes and procedures.
  • Being proficient and hands‑on in all development processes within the team.
  • Providing strong technical leadership; coaching, challenging and empowering the teams to deliver to their fullest potential on time and within budget.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration, communication and continuous improvement.
  • Effectively managing, and resolving conflicts and performance across the team.
  • Prompt escalation of problems, issues and risks.

Must Have

  • 5+ years’ experience developing and maintaining production‑grade applications using JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • Strong experience with Java, J2EE, JSP, HTML, CSS, relational databases, and JSON/XML technologies.
  • 3+ years’ hands‑on experience building modern web applications using React and Next.js.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a Technical Lead or similar leadership role, managing and mentoring high‑performing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering cloud‑native solutions within AWS environments, including infrastructure deployment using AWS CDK.
  • Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and automated provisioning and deployment practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative software solutions, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and solve problems creatively.
  • Solid understanding of secure, scalable, resilient, and observable system design principles.
  • Excellent ability to produce and review technical architecture documentation, solution designs, and operational processes and technical direction within the team.
  • Expert knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and full software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Proven ability to lead code quality initiatives, including peer reviews, automated testing, debugging, and secure coding standards.
  • Passion for mentoring, team development, knowledge sharing, and upskilling engineers.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams including Product, Architecture, QA, and DevOps to deliver business‑aligned technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness.
