ABOUT US
UNFOLD is an award-winning digital creative agency based in Los Angeles, New York, London and Jakarta, partnering with some of the world's most dynamic entertainment, gaming and brand clients. We create culturally relevant, digitally driven work that connects audiences and brands across platforms. Our capabilities span strategy, campaign development, brand identity, key art, trailers and capture, motion graphics, website design, social content, live action production, media and experiential.
THE ROLE
Our newly formed London team is looking for an experienced Senior Art Director to help shape standout creative for games, entertainment, and fandom-led campaigns. This is a hands-on senior creative role for someone who can move fluently between conceptual thinking, polished design, social-native motion design, and client-facing creative leadership. You will support both live project work and new business initiatives, working closely with the Managing Director for Europe while acting as a creative extension of the LA team. As one of UNFOLD's first London hires, this role requires an entrepreneurial, multi-talented, self-motivated individual who is excited by the opportunity to help build something from the ground up, with the support and experience of a globally successful agency behind them.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience working with gaming and entertainment brands. Being a gamer is a big plus, but ultimately understanding fandom, internet culture, audience behaviour, and how to create work that feels native to the communities it’s made for is most important. You should also be confident meeting clients in person, presenting ideas clearly, and representing UNFOLD as a senior creative voice in the UK and European market.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Conceptual Thinking
- Take internal and client briefs and turn them into exciting, actionable creative ideas.
- Think at both campaign-platform and production-detail level, balancing ambition with what can realistically be made.
- Develop creative territories, moodboards, visual references, storyboards, mock-ups and presentation-ready routes that bring ideas to life quickly and clearly.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully where they improve efficiency, exploration and/or output quality, while maintaining strong creative judgement and craft standards.
- New Business Support
- Play a key role in developing pitch-winning creative for gaming and entertainment prospects.
- Partner with the Managing Director, Europe on business development opportunities and with the LA creative team on credentials meetings, RFPs and existing projects.
- Build visually strong pitch decks, campaign territories, mock-ups, and art direction examples.
- Hands-On Design and Motion Design
- Individually design and develop creative work across pitches, campaign development, and live project delivery.
- Create key art concepts, title treatments, poster-style visuals, campaign imagery, design, pitch visuals, digital assets, display creative, and presentation decks.
- Create or receive designs or video clips ready for motion and bring them to life editing, animating, and applying motion graphics for social content.
- Bring strong craft across typography, layout, composition, image-making, retouching, colour, hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
- Build campaigns that can flex across social, digital, web, OOH, display, creator content, trailers, experiential, and other campaign elements.
- Creative Leadership
- Lead by doing, not just directing.
- Guide designers, motion artists, editors, illustrators, 3D artists, photographers, freelancers and production partners to deliver against a clear creative vision.
- Give clear, constructive feedback that improves the work without slowing the team down.
- Present ideas confidently to clients and internal stakeholders, explaining creative decisions with clarity and conviction.
- Represent UNFOLD in client meetings as a senior creative partner who understands both the work and the business opportunity.
HERE'S WHAT IT TAKES
- Significant experience as an Art Director, Senior Designer, Design Lead, Senior Motion Designer or similar within a creative agency, gaming publisher, entertainment brand, social agency, trailer house, or integrated campaign agency.
- A strong portfolio showing hands-on design craft, conceptual ideation, editing, motion production, and art direction across campaigns, digital, social, key art, brand identity, entertainment, or gaming work.
- Proven ability to develop visual concepts from initial idea through to final design execution and motion production.
- Excellent command of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, After Effects, and Premiere.
- Strong working knowledge of Google Slides for pitch and presentation design.
- Experience designing visuals and producing motion pieces, not just overseeing other people's work.
- Experience directing designers, motion artists, editors, illustrators, 3D artists, photographers, or production partners.
- Ability to work quickly, manage multiple projects switching between conceptual and hands on support, while maintaining creative standards under pressure.
- A genuine passion for games, entertainment, fandom, internet culture, and visual storytelling.
- Willingness to collaborate with the LA team across semi-flexible work hours to accommodate time zones.
- Work from the London office for a minimum of 2 days a week.
