Principal Chartered Structural Engineer sought at this leading and expanding SME Multidisciplinary Consultancy. The role is based in Wigan.
Our client is a well-established, multidisciplinary consultancy practice operating across the North West of England. With over three decades of experience, they deliver civil, structural, and geotechnical/geo environmental engineering solutions across residential, commercial, and education sectors. The business has a strong reputation in the residential development sector, particularly in highways, drainage, and structural design. Following acquisition by a larger engineering group, they are entering an exciting phase of growth and diversification, expanding their portfolio into both superstructure and substructure projects.
They are seeking a Principal Chartered Structural Engineer to lead and manage the structural section of the practice. This senior role will report directly to the Managing Director and will involve both day to day operational management and strategic expansion of the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering technical excellence, mentoring junior staff, and spearheading business development initiatives to grow the structural offering. Responsibilities
- Manage the structural engineering team on a daily basis.
- Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineers and technicians.
- Undertake and oversee structural surveys and inspections.
- Prepare detailed structural calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.
- Interface with clients to understand requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
- Drive business development and client relationship management, supporting the expansion of the structural department.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng).
- Chartered status with either IStructE or ICE (additional qualifications advantageous).
- At least 15 years' UK construction track record, ideally within a multidisciplinary practice.
- Proven track record in superstructure and substructure design across multiple project stages.
- Strong technical skills and proficiency with relevant design software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor junior staff.
- Proactive, detail oriented, and capable of operating at a senior management level.
