Making Tax Digital (MTD) is fundamentally transforming the UK tax system to use digitally integrated tools. MTD is a key part of the government’s ambition for the client to become one of the most digitally advanced tax authorities in the world. MTD will make it easier for businesses, self-employed individuals, and landlords to get their tax right first time by integrating tax into their day-to-day business activities through the use of software and digital tools. It will create a single, up-to-date view of a customer’s tax affairs in one, modern and robust IT System.

Why this Role?

This is a pivotal role that has a direct impact on how people engage with crucial digital services. As a User Researcher, you will design services that enable users to manage their interactions with Government departments through live digital platforms. These services will encompass a broad spectrum of topics and user needs, requiring a strong user-focused approach and expertise in user-centric design. What you’ll do

  • Work collaboratively with user researchers, interaction designers, content designers, service designers and performance analysts as well as software developers and policy teams to produce outstanding digital services.
  • Conduct research and engage with a diverse range of users to design intuitive experiences that address real challenges and meet their needs effectively.
  • Create high-quality, compelling design concepts and artefacts such as personas, flows, service maps and wireframes.
  • Design in an inclusive and accessible way.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary delivery team.

What you will need:

  • Solid foundation in user-centered design, from concept to final delivery.
  • Proficiency with tools, processes, and methods, and the ability to guide an agile delivery team.
  • Strong ability to understand and articulate the needs of both technical and business stakeholders clearly.
  • Skilled in managing stakeholder expectations and handling difficult discussions.
  • Experienced in creating rapid paper and digital prototypes.
