Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Platform Engineer to join a high-performing team supporting critical infrastructure on a z/OS IBM Mainframe platform. This role requires deep technical expertise in CICS environments, a strong understanding of DevOps principles, and the ability to drive automation and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support technical solutions on the z/OS Mainframe platform, with a focus on CICS environments.
- Champion DevOps practices, automating build, development, and release processes to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on mainframe products and subsystems, including CICS resource definition and environment management.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, testers, and stakeholders to streamline the development and maintenance of mainframe environments.
- Support incident management by offering technical insight and working with third parties to resolve issues.
- Monitor live services and identify opportunities for optimisation and improvement.
- Ensure compliance with governance, change, and release management processes.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather and own technical requirements.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing across the wider technical community.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Advanced practical experience in a CICS technical role on z/OS Mainframe.
- Proven experience promoting and implementing DevOps principles.
- Working knowledge of: z/OS Connect API delivery, MQ, Endevor Administration, and GIT.
- Mainframe infrastructure and VSAM concepts.
- z/OS Communications Server.
- Proficiency in: Workload scheduling and automation tools (CA-7, CA-11, CA-OPSMVS).
- Coding and scripting (REXX, JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, CLIST).
- Mainframe utilities (DFDSS, SORT, File Manager, DFSMS, DFHSM, Datacom).
- Problem management tools (IBM Debug Tool, Fault Analyser).
- CICS tailoring and monitoring tools (CEDA, Omegamon for CICS).
- Strong documentation and procedural writing skills.
