Role Summary

We are currently looking to appoint a Head of Retail Media to establish and lead a brand-new Retail Media function, creating a commercially successful proposition that delivers incremental supplier-funded revenue across a large wholesale and retail estate.

This is a unique opportunity to build a Retail Media capability from the ground up, with responsibility for shaping the commercial strategy, delivering an initial proof of concept, developing supplier partnerships, and creating the operational foundations for a national rollout.

The successful candidate will lead the creation of a dedicated Retail Media team, own the commercial proposition, and play a key role in establishing a new revenue stream for the business.

  • Key accountabilities of the role
  • Develop and deliver the Retail Media strategy, creating a scalable commercial proposition from inception through to national rollout.
  • Lead the successful delivery of an initial Retail Media pilot, validating the commercial model and demonstrating return on investment.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of FMCG and supplier partners, securing investment across Retail Media opportunities.
  • Develop compelling supplier-facing media proposals, presentations and commercial pitch materials.
  • Own Retail Media revenue targets and support the creation and management of a dedicated Retail Media P&L.
  • Assess market demand, pricing models and supplier appetite to optimise the commercial proposition.
  • Produce case studies and performance reporting to support wider business investment and rollout.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Retail Media team, providing coaching, direction and commercial leadership.
  • Manage Retail Media operations, supplier relationships and account management activity to ensure successful campaign delivery.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Trading, IT, Operations, Finance and Retail teams to successfully implement Retail Media initiatives.
  • Influence senior stakeholders across the organisation, ensuring alignment on priorities, delivery plans and long-term strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance Retail Media capabilities through innovation, technology and new revenue opportunities.
  • Key skills and experience
  • Demonstrable experience within Retail Media, ideally within Grocery, Wholesale or FMCG environments.
  • Experience building, launching or significantly growing a Retail Media proposition or commercial capability.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience owning revenue targets, commercial performance and ideally P&L responsibility.
  • Experience developing strategic supplier partnerships and securing media investment from FMCG brands.
  • Strong understanding of Retail Media products, supplier funding models and the wider Retail Media landscape.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional programmes from concept through to successful delivery.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing commercial or specialist teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders across multiple business functions.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to develop compelling commercial propositions.
  • Data-driven approach with experience using insight and performance metrics to optimise commercial outcomes.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to establish new ways of working, build capability and drive transformational change.
