We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join a high-profile programme, taking ownership of the design, deployment, automation, and operational support of a highly available Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager platform hosted on AWS.

This role is ideal for an engineer with strong expertise across AWS infrastructure, Linux administration, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and DevOps practices, with experience delivering secure, scalable, and resilient platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • AWS Platform Engineering
    • Design, build and support AWS infrastructure hosting Sonatype Nexus Repository.
    • Provision and manage Linux-based EC2 environments.
    • Configure and maintain VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups and network ACLs.
    • Implement Application Load Balancers (ALB) and scalable, resilient architectures.
    • Configure EBS storage and S3-based backup and artefact archival solutions.
    • Manage Route 53 DNS configuration.
    • Develop and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Nexus Repository Administration
    • Install, configure and administer Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager.
    • Configure hosted, proxy and group repositories.
    • Support repository formats including Maven, Docker, npm, NuGet, PyPI and Raw.
    • Manage blob stores, retention policies and repository clean-up processes.
    • Configure SSL/TLS certificates and HTTPS access.
    • Integrate Nexus with LDAP and Active Directory environments.
    • Perform upgrades, patching and ongoing platform maintenance.
  • Linux Systems Administration
    • Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Amazon Linux and Ubuntu environments.
    • Configure storage, file systems and core services.
    • Manage users, permissions and access control.
    • Troubleshoot operating system, networking and application issues.
    • Optimise platform performance and resource utilisation.
  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code
    • Develop and maintain automated deployments using Terraform, Ansible and scripting tools.
    • Build and enhance Infrastructure as Code solutions.
    • Automate platform provisioning, Nexus deployment and configuration management.
    • Automate backup, patching and disaster recovery processes.
    • Support version control and release processes using Git.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Implement AWS and Linux security best practices.
    • Configure IAM roles, policies and least-privilege access controls.
    • Manage encryption using AWS KMS.
    • Utilise AWS Secrets Manager and Systems Manager Parameter Store.
    • Implement operating system hardening, certificate management and vulnerability remediation.
    • Support audit logging, monitoring and compliance requirements.
  • Monitoring & Operations
    • Implement and manage monitoring and alerting using CloudWatch, CloudTrail and AWS Config.
    • Support platform monitoring, capacity planning and performance tuning.
    • Investigate incidents and conduct root cause analysis.
    • Maintain operational excellence across the platform estate.
  • CI/CD Integration
    • Integrate Nexus with CI/CD toolchains including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI and Azure DevOps.
    • Support artefact publishing, dependency management and Docker repositories.
    • Drive secure software supply chain practices and build optimisation.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • AWS: Strong hands-on experience with Amazon EC2, IAM, VPC, Route 53, Application Load Balancers (ALB), Amazon EBS, Amazon S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, Systems Manager, Secrets Manager, KMS, Security Groups.
  • Linux: Strong administration experience across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Amazon Linux, Ubuntu, Bash scripting, Systemd, Networking and storage management, Package management, Performance tuning.
  • Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Terraform, Ansible, Git, YAML, Shell scripting, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Nexus Repository: Nexus Repository Manager deployment and administration, Repository management and configuration, Blob store administration, Cleanup and retention policies, SSL/TLS implementation, Backup and recovery, Performance optimisation, User and role administration.
Desirable Experience
  • Docker, Kubernetes, HashiCorp Vault, Prometheus, Grafana, Sonatype Lifecycle (IQ Server), Apache or NGINX, LDAP, Active Directory or SAML integrations.
Clearance Requirements

Candidates must hold BPSS clearance prior to starting and be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
