Overview
Automation Testing Engineer, joining a development team of five developers and one tester. You’ll support and enhance a suite of 8–9 microservices, adding value through quality-driven processes and meaningful documentation.
Duration: contract to run until 31/12/2026
Location: Northampton, Hybrid 2/3 days onsite
Rate: up to £322 p/d Umbrellainside IR35
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute testing strategies to validate functionality, performance, and user experience, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve defects and continuously improve testing processes.
- Create and execute automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early defect detection (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Karate).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria.
- Perform root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
- Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities.
Qualifications
- Experience in test automation using Selenium/Playwright, BDD cucumber, Java is essential.
- Experience in using API testing tools like Postman, Insomnia.
- Banking/Financial, Cards and Payments services experience preferred.
- Experience in Functional and Non-Functional testing, including regression, integration, and user acceptance testing to verify quality and functionality using automation.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum methodology.
- Experience in running automation test cases with CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins).
- Experience with Test Management tools like JIRA, Confluence.
- Experience in Performance testing tools like JMeter and monitoring tools like AppDynamics.
- Experience in using Karate framework.
- You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology expertise.
Desirable / Additional skills
- Experience in embedding new policies/procedures due to risk mitigation.
- Ability to guide and persuade team members and communicate complex or sensitive information.
- Experience collaborating with other functions and business areas; taking ownership for end results and managing risk and strengthening controls.
