AI Security Engineer, Hedge Fund, London [100% office-based]

We are working with a fast-growing fixed income hedge fund who are looking to hire a security engineer (AI) to support their expanding operation. There is subtle buzz about the firm, and it’s fair to say that they have a definite “start-up” feel to them. It is their first hire within the security landscape. Therefore, it's an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be involved in the building out of security processes and to operate with a significant amount of autonomy.

AI tools are becoming embedded in how engineers and researchers work, creating unknown risks and potential leakages if not managed correctly. The fund's rapid growth, combined with the adoption of emerging technologies, means that now is the right moment to hire an experienced security specialist. This individual will define strategy, workflows, and perform analysis in order to identify vulnerability and establish scalable controls or remediations from the ground up. It's a hands‑on engineering role, with an advisory capacity, working across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, technical and non-technical, as the resident, subject‑matter expert and to make recommendations and influence decisions.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Set‑up foundational AI security processes, including areas such as: threat modelling, scanning, DevSecOps from scratch.
  • Find and fix vulnerabilities across AI tools and workflows, owning the entire process as the firm's first and only security hire.
  • Choose and stand‑up the initial security tooling for a small, fast‑growing, AI‑adopting business.
  • Advise engineers, leadership and external stakeholders on risk and practical next steps, as the resident specialist on the subject matter.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of comprehensive experience within the security engineering with strong understanding of DevSecOps practices.
  • Stong engineering skills, particularly around Python for tooling.
  • Experience working as a lone contributor or as part of a lean team, touching on many areas within the security remit.
  • A sharp, current grasp and genuine interest in AI/LLM themes and emerging risks.

Preferred but not a requirement:

  • Financial sector experience. Those within a start‑up / scale‑up environment outside of finance will be considered.
  • Recognised certifications, such as CISSP, are desireable but not a pre‑requisite.
  • Experience in a leadership role.

We can only respond to highly qualified candidates.
