Lead native mobile development and help shape the next stage of an established software platform.

I'm recruiting a Lead Mobile Engineer for a global software business whose products support organisations working in regulated industries.

Mobile is an important part of its product investment.

You will help improve existing applications and contribute to the next generation of mobile experiences.

There is a particular interest in strong i OS expertise, although engineers with an Android specialism are also encouraged to apply.

The role

You will lead a mobile engineering squad, combining technical ownership with responsibility for delivery and people development.

Around 60% to 70% of your time will involve hands on engineering.

This includes developing features, directing AI agents, reviewing code and making architectural decisions.

The current applications are native.

You will guide their development and contribute to future decisions about mobile architecture and tooling.

  • What you will be doing
  • Leading native development across i OS, Android or a squad covering both platforms.
  • Making architectural decisions and setting standards for code quality and testing.
  • Owning the relevant App Store or Google Play release processes.
  • Improving application stability, accessibility, security and performance.
  • Developing automated testing and maintaining effective CI/CD pipelines.
  • Helping engineers use AI tools effectively and validate their output.
  • Working with Product to clarify requirements, plan delivery and resolve blockers.
  • Managing and coaching engineers through regular one to ones, feedback and development plans.
  • What you will bring
  • Substantial commercial experience developing native mobile applications.
  • Strong expertise in Swift with Swift UI or UIKit, or Kotlin with Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience leading architectural decisions for complex mobile applications.
  • Practical knowledge of app store releases, automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Experience resolving performance issues such as slow start times, memory growth or rendering problems.
  • An understanding of secure mobile development and maintainable application architecture.
  • Enthusiasm for AI assisted engineering, supported by sound technical judgement.
  • People management experience, or clear readiness to take on direct reports.

For a squad covering both platforms, you should be comfortable discussing and reviewing work outside your main specialism.

Equal depth in i OS and Android is not expected.

Experience in a regulated industry would be useful, but is not essential.

Why consider it?

You will influence the mobile applications, their architecture and the way your squad works.

There is scope to contribute to future technology decisions while continuing to build and release native mobile software.
