A large, UK wide organisation is looking for an experienced Strategic Technology Business Partner to act as the key link between its Technology function and senior leadership.

This is a high-impact role focused on understanding business strategy, shaping technology priorities and ensuring investment delivers genuine, measurable value.

You will partner closely with senior leadership-level stakeholders, understanding their strategic and operational priorities and translating these into a clear technology roadmap.

You will assess and prioritise competing demands, develop and challenge business cases, identify opportunities across areas such as platforms, data, AI and automation, and ensure divisional priorities align with the wider Technology strategy.

This is not a traditional relationship-led IT Business Partner position.

You will need the credibility to challenge senior stakeholders, confidently say no where something does not deliver sufficient value and offer better alternatives.

The environment is fast-moving and evolving, so you will need to be comfortable navigating ambiguity, bringing new ideas into the organisation and balancing longer-term strategic thinking with a willingness to roll your sleeves up and get things moving.

The successful Strategic Technology Business Partner will have

  • Strong Technology/IT Business Partnering experience, operating with MD, SLT or C-suite level stakeholders.
  • Proven experience shaping and prioritising technology demand, roadmaps and investment against wider business strategy.
  • Clear examples of delivering measurable business outcomes through technology, such as cost reduction, productivity, growth, service improvement or risk reduction.
  • Broad understanding of enterprise technology, with the ability to identify opportunities across platforms, data, AI, automation, cloud and wider IT services.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge senior leaders and navigate competing priorities.
  • Experience operating effectively within complex, fast-moving or matrixed organisations, combining strategic thinking with a pragmatic, hands-on approach.

How to prepare for a job interview at Understanding Solutions

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
