UCN is building a global price reporting agency for seafood, with nearly 3,700 data sets, including 577 proprietary US wholesale price assessments. The Role: UCN seeks a commercially minded and enterprising Senior Price and News Reporter to lead our seafood pricing and news coverage across the Nordic region, primarily focusing on Norway. This pivotal role is focused on building out proprietary datasets, breaking news and delivering in-depth reporting on key developments shaping the seafood industry in the region for a global audience. In addition to price discovery, you’ll turn your market intelligence into news and analysis for our global readership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Covering and enhancing existing datasets.
  • Developing new benchmark seafood price assessments and coverage.
  • Writing weekly market commentaries and contributing to our proprietary pricing platform.
  • Using your beat to generate news stories, including but not limited to:
  • Supply and demand shifts, and pricing dynamics.
  • Market disruptions.
  • Trade trends, regulatory changes and sustainability issues.
  • Mergers and acquisitions, investments, and sector company news.
  • Becoming a subject matter expert and go-to source for evolving Nordic pricing and trade flows.
  • Build and maintain reliable sourcing networks among seafood buyers, sellers, and traders.
  • Conduct regular outreach to collect, verify, interpret, and communicate pricing data to key stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with the market, including but not limited to supply statistics, demand drivers, price influences.
  • Produce timely and accurate price reports, news articles, and market analysis.
  • Identify story angles and spin off scoops and exclusives based on pricing trends.
  • Work with editors and data teams to enhance our price portal and coverage.
  • Attend key industry events and conferences in the region as needed.
  • Work closely with our data and pricing teams to develop price assessments and market intelligence.
  • Contribute to newsletters, pricing reports, and subscriber alerts.
  • What You Need:

    • 3+ years’ experience in commodities reporting, market analysis, or trade journalism.
    • Proven ability to turn market movements into compelling news stories.
    • Excellent sourcing and relationship-building skills.
    • Highly numerate; comfortable using spreadsheets, charts, and trade data.
    • Analytical thinker with the ability to assess market conditions and provide detailed statistical analysis.
    • Fluent Norwegian required; strong proficiency in English (written and spoken).
    • Background in seafood, agribusiness, shipping, trade or environmental policy, or energy markets preferred.
    • Strong news judgment, sourcing ability, and understanding of B2B journalism.

    Bonus Points:

    • Existing contacts in the seafood or aquaculture industry.
    • Knowledge of other Nordic languages (e.g., Swedish, Danish, Icelandic).
