A leading UK law firm is looking for a Risk Lawyer to join its London office in a newly created position within the Risk & Compliance team.

The successful candidate for the Risk Lawyer role will work closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance, the firm’s COLP and key contentious partners and will have a particular focus on claims and complaints.

The firm is open to considering candidates on either a full-time or part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities for the Risk Lawyer role:

  • Supporting the management of professional negligence claims, circumstances and potential exposures involving the firm, including reviewing relevant files and advising on risk and liability issues
  • Working closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance, COLP, Claims Partners and other senior stakeholders in relation to contentious risk matters and claims strategy
  • Acting as a key liaison point for the firm’s professional indemnity insurers and external legal advisers in relation to ongoing claims and notifications
  • Preparing concise risk summaries and assessments relating to claims, complaints and other sensitive matters for internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing the firm’s complaints process, including reviewing complaints, coordinating investigations and assisting with the drafting of formal responses
  • Ensuring all complaints and regulatory matters are handled within applicable regulatory and internal deadlines
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting schedules relating to claims, complaints and associated risk matters
  • Liaising with external bodies, including the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA, where required in relation to complaints or regulatory issues
  • Supporting the preparation for annual professional indemnity insurance renewals, including collating claims information, exposure summaries and risk management initiatives
  • Contributing to internal reporting, risk analysis and lessons learned exercises arising from claims and complaints trends
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of training and guidance to fee earners on complaints handling, claims prevention and broader risk management issues
  • Supporting the review and response process relating to Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and other information requests where required
  • Assisting with wider Risk & Compliance projects and initiatives

Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with strong post-qualification experience
  • Previous experience gained within a law firm risk & compliance function, in-house legal/risk team or private practice disputes/professional indemnity environment
  • Strong understanding of SRA regulations, professional conduct obligations and law firm risk management principles
  • Experience handling professional negligence claims, complaints and contentious matters within a legal environment
