A leading US law firm is looking for an experienced Risk Attorney to join their London office. This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional seeking a broad-based risk role where you will have exposure to a wide range of risk areas, from AML and financial crime to regulatory training, client file audits, and engagement letter management.
Key Responsibilities for the Risk Attorney role:
- Monitor regulatory and legal developments affecting the legal industry.
- Promote the Firm’s risk management and compliance culture across the London office.
- Collaborate with risk function colleagues and business services teams to maintain high standards of compliance and service.
- Respond to risk-related queries from legal teams and support departments.
- Prepare briefings and reports for the Risk Committee on risk issues and mitigation effectiveness.
- Lead and coordinate risk/compliance induction for all new hires, focusing on SRA Code of Conduct, client onboarding, conflicts, and AML procedures.
- Develop and deliver ongoing compliance training tailored to different staff groups.
- Work with the AML Manager to oversee mandatory AML, sanctions, and financial crime training.
- Maintain and support the COLP Breach Register, preparing reports as required for SRA submission.
- Manage key compliance registers (e.g., anti-bribery, gifts and hospitality, outsourcing).
- Review and revise London engagement letters and maintain a central register of standard terms.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Qualified solicitor with prior compliance experience within a law firm.
- Strong knowledge of the SRA regulatory framework, Money Laundering Regulations, and relevant compliance legislation.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with colleagues at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
