A strategic leadership opportunity has opened within a high-performing risk and compliance team at a prominent international firm. This role leads a specialist team dedicated to managing the onboarding of new clients and ensuring regulatory obligations are fulfilled across global operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in bridging the gap between Managers and the Head of Business Acceptance, maintaining robust financial crime compliance and client due diligence standards while promoting efficiency, integrity, and best practice within the firm's risk framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and review the client onboarding process, ensuring comprehensive due diligence is conducted in line with current financial crime regulations.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex onboarding and compliance issues.
- Make informed decisions on risk factors, including potential sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEPs), ensuring prompt escalation where necessary.
- Oversee screening processes for adverse media and sanctions, ensuring appropriate actions and documentation.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of training modules related to onboarding and compliance for both the team and wider business support functions.
- Liaise directly with clients to clarify and resolve compliance-related queries.
- Supervise and ensure the accuracy of conflict checks during the intake process as well as collaborate with legal and operational teams to assess conflict risks and contribute to their resolution.
- Lead a team of analysts and senior analysts, providing day-to-day line management, coaching, and development opportunities as well as conduct performance reviews, set individual goals, and offer regular feedback.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) regulations and onboarding processes within the professional services or legal sector.
- At least five years of relevant experience in compliance or risk functions, preferably with multi-jurisdictional exposure.
- Demonstrated people management expertise, with a minimum of two years in a leadership role.
- Proven ability to navigate complex compliance queries with clarity and sound judgment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, legal professionals, and external clients.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the capacity to manage competing deadlines and priorities under pressure.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally as required.
