Ruby on Rails Developer - Mid Level

Salary: £53,182 - 60,000 per year

Requirements

• We require at least 3 years of full-time commercial Ruby on Rails experience working in teams of more than 2 people.
• We require strong Ruby and Ruby on Rails skills.
• We require SQL experience, with PostgreSQL or MySQL preferred.
• We require experience with Git and version control workflows.
• We require knowledge of HTML, CSS, and accessibility standards.
• We require JavaScript and TypeScript experience.
• We require cloud infrastructure experience, with AWS preferred, for out-of-hours support on a rota basis.
• We require experience with continuous integration and delivery.
• We expect strong collaboration, communication, adaptability, curiosity, and comfort with uncertainty and complexity.
• We expect familiarity with agile ways of working and a GDS-style delivery environment.
• We welcome experience with user research, designer collaboration, open source contributions, UNIX systems, and AI tools.
• We welcome UK residency and the ability to work in our London office and on client site at least 2 days a week.

Responsibilities

• We build and maintain Ruby on Rails applications across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases.
• We work directly with designers to turn designs and prototypes into functional, accessible products.
• We participate in user research sessions and help decide what to build and why.
• We write and maintain automated test suites as part of normal delivery.
• We review and adapt existing codebases, including legacy systems.
• We work with Git, version control workflows, and continuous integration pipelines.
• We contribute to and consume modern APIs.
• We apply strong security practices, especially when handling personal or public data.
• We make products accessible by default, following WCAG standards.
• We present our work in show and tells to clients and stakeholders.
• We review technical colleagues pull requests kindly and constructively.
• We adapt to new technologies and workflows, including AI coding tools.
• We keep up to date with relevant technology developments and share knowledge with the team.
• We provide out-of-hours support on a rota basis when required.
