UnBarred is an independent craft brewery based in Worthing, West Sussex. We make modern, flavour-forward beer for our taproom in Brighton, a growing pub estate, and wholesale accounts across the South East. From sessionable hazy pales to bold limited releases β€” always with intent, always with quality at the centre. We're a small, ambitious team. The brewery is growing and this role is a genuine opportunity to help shape what we make and how we make it β€” working directly alongside the MD and Head Brewer.

We're looking for an experienced Lead Brewer to own the day-to-day brewing programme at Worthing. You'll work alongside Jordan (MD & Head Brewer) as the senior technical presence on the brew floor, leading a brewery team of four. This is a hands-on role. You'll be brewing, leading, and troubleshooting β€” not managing from a desk. You'll have real input into recipe development, process improvement, and how we run the brewery as we scale.

What you'll do:

  • Own the brew schedule day-to-day β€” core range and limited releases, to target and on time
  • Lead and develop the brewery team of four β€” supervision, training, and standards
  • Maintain fermentation, cellar, and yeast management across all active vessels
  • Own quality β€” sensory assessment, troubleshooting, signing off beer before it leaves the brewery
  • Manage cleaning and CIP across the brewery to schedule
  • Keep brewery management software (Breww) accurate β€” brews, fermentation data, stock movements
  • Collaborate on recipe development, process improvements, and R&D
  • Oversee packaging runs and work with the brewery operative on canning output
  • Manage ingredient ordering, supplier relationships, and stock levels
  • Contribute to production planning β€” what we brew, when, and why
  • Be hands-on throughout all stages

Proven commercial brewing experience:

  • You've run brews independently in a craft or production setting
  • Strong technical foundation β€” full process from mash to pack, confident troubleshooting
  • Yeast management β€” harvesting, pitching rate calculation, generation tracking
  • Experience leading or mentoring a small team
  • Comfortable with brewing data and COGS information
  • Physically fit and happy in a hands-on environment
  • A genuine interest in craft beer and what makes a great product
  • Experience on a canning or kegging line
  • Familiarity with Breww or similar brewery management software
  • IBD General Certificate in Brewing or equivalent
  • Experience with hazy, barrel-aged, or modern craft styles

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary, depending on experience
  • A senior role in a brewery with real ambition
  • Direct working relationship with the MD and Head Brewer
  • Input into recipe development and the limited release programme
  • Monthly beer allowance
  • Training and development support β€” IBD study help available
  • Great south-coast location β€” easy commute from Brighton, Chichester and the wider Sussex coast

How to apply:

Apply via LinkedIn, or send your CV and a short cover note directly to Jordan Mower at jordan@unbarredbrewery.com. We'll review applications as they come in and move quickly for the right person.
