Position Purpose: The Banknote Trader is responsible for buying, selling, and managing physical foreign currency banknotes, optimising inventory levels, pricing spreads, and mitigating market and operational risk. The role requires close monitoring of FX markets, customer demand, logistics, and regulatory requirements to ensure profitability, liquidity, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trading & Pricing: Buy and sell physical foreign currency banknotes across major and emerging market currencies. Set competitive buy/sell rates in line with market movements, funding costs, and risk appetite. Monitor FX spot markets, interest rates, and geopolitical developments impacting currency demand. Manage positions to remain within approved trading and exposure limits.
- Inventory & Liquidity Management: Monitor banknote inventory levels and ensure sufficient liquidity to meet client demand. Optimise stock rotation to reduce holding costs; shrinkage, and obsolete notes. Coordinate cash flows across multiple currencies and locations.
- Client & Counterparty Management: Execute trades with banks, financial institutions, bureaux de change, and cash wholesalers. Maintain relationships with key counterparties to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply. Support sales teams with pricing, market guidance, and deal structuring.
Qualifications: To land this role you will need: Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (preferred). Experience in FX trading, cash management, treasury, or banknote operations. Knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to cash, AML, and sanctions is desirable. Commercially minded and results-driven. Calm under pressure with strong risk awareness. Trustworthy, discreet, and highly professional.
