Overview
ENDS, the UK’s and Europe’s leading news and information service for environmental professionals, is searching for a dynamic and driven associate editor to lead the charge at market leading publication ENDS Waste & Bioenergy (EWB). This is an exciting opportunity to become a pivotal voice in the waste sector, crafting compelling content and setting the tone for this influential platform. You’ll spearhead the editorial direction of EWB, ensuring its content is cutting‑edge, insightful, and resonates with industry leaders, while building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and decision‑makers in the waste sector, uncovering the stories that matter.
You’ll embrace a multi‑channel approach, extending your influence across podcasts and webinars, hosting the publication’s market leading Burning Issue podcast and attending industry events in order to maximise reach and engagement. The successful candidate will have excellent news judgement and the ability to spot the stories that matter most to our audience’s working lives.
Responsibilities
- Plan, write, edit and ensure timely delivery of news and news analysis for EWB
- Prepare EWB’s flagship daily news bulletin and oversee the delivery of the title’s specialist bulletins
- Host EWB’s Burning Issue podcast, arranging guests
- Target editorial coverage to fit the interests and needs of the readership, setting and monitoring the tone for the EWB title and its sister publication Mineral & Waste Planning
- Use analytics data to track audience interest and drive the direction of the publication’s content
- Manage the editor of Mineral & Waste Planning, ensuring that the title delivers impactful content
- Network with high profile members of the waste sector, attending industry events, visiting plants, and liaising with EWB’s editorial panel to provide market insights to the readership
- Liaise with subscription and marketing teams to grow the user base and identify initiatives to maintain and grow subscriber numbers
- Monitor competitors and the industry sector to ensure content is maintained to agreed standards and quality levels
- Use data from EWB’s Plant Tracker to develop stories
- Maintain solid market awareness in order to identify new opportunities through which to expand the brand’s scope and visibility
- Stay ahead of industry trends and own the development of creating a thought leadership position in the industry
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of editorial processes and best practices
- Maintain style and editorial guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, as well as having regard for tone, style and legality of all copy

- Must have relevant experience
- Ability to build and maintain high level contacts
- A proven ability to prioritise and juggle new projects with routine editorial activities
- Excellent understanding of media law
- Ability to write, edit, sub‑edit and proofread to a high standard
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to conduct high profile interviews
- Time management, decision making, and the ability to work to tight daily deadlines
- Creative approach and commercial awareness
