MAF UK is delighted to open applications for the 2026 intake of our Future Pilot Programme — a pathway created for individuals with a passion for mission aviation and a desire to serve some of the world’s most isolated communities. This programme supports aspiring mission pilots as they progress toward the theoretical knowledge and practical flying experience required to obtain a Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) and Command Instrument Rating (CIR). Successful trainees will then prepare for deployment to an overseas MAF programme in Africa or the Asia-Pacific region, where their skills will contribute directly to life-changing aviation ministry.

Eligibility: This scheme is open only to candidates who hold full, unrestricted rights to live and work in the UK. Applicants based outside the UK will be directed to the relevant MAF group for their region. It is also an occupational requirement that all applicants be committed and active Christians at a local church, in the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Throw yourself into flight training. From ground school to simulator sessions to your first real take-off, you’ll dive deep into the knowledge and skills needed to become a confident, capable pilot. Expect challenge, adventure, and huge personal growth.
  • Master the theory that keeps aircraft safe. Aviation isn’t just about flying — it’s about understanding how everything works behind the scenes. You’ll study navigation, meteorology, aircraft systems, human factors, and more, building the foundation for your CPL and CIR.
  • Learn practical skills from real aviation professionals. You’ll work alongside experienced instructors and engineers, gaining hands-on experience that will shape you into a disciplined, safety-minded pilot ready for mission flying.
  • Prepare for life and service overseas. As part of your training journey, you’ll begin developing cross-cultural awareness, resilience, and the heart to serve remote communities — essential skills for your future role with MAF.
  • Build a prayer and support team. Mission aviation is a shared journey. You’ll learn how to engage friends, family, and your church community to pray for you, stand with you, and cheer you on as you train and eventually head overseas.
  • Grow in character, courage, and calling. Through mentoring, reflection, and real-world experience, you’ll develop the maturity and spiritual grounding needed for mission flying — becoming not only a skilled pilot but someone ready to make a difference.
