The Features Editor is responsible for commissioning and writing a range of content for Campaign, including features, interviews, analysis and opinion articles.
Responsibilities- A highly organised individual, the commissioning editor will oversee long‑form projects that lead the industry conversation, regular feature and opinion slots, more reactive analysis pieces and op‑eds linked to news stories.
- Commission and edit features for Campaign’s website, while managing a well‑organised schedule of content.
- Research and write analysis, features and opinion pieces to the highest journalistic standards.
- Maintain and develop key contacts with a view to spotting major issues, themes and topics for debate to inspire Campaign readers.
- Contribute to, and help commission, Campaign’s major editorial projects – including project managing at least one a year.
- Work with, and deputise for, the UK premium content editor to ensure Campaign has a regular flow of long‑form content and offers business insights to readers through data analysis and commentary on trends.
- Help to develop feature and profile writing in the team by writing clear briefs and suggesting angles, plus rewriting copy and providing feedback as needed.
- Regularly review and react to analytics to ensure Campaign’s features are engaging its audience.
- Manage and edit external columnists’ copy and ensure all columns published on Campaign are of the highest quality.
- Liaise with the art and production desk about photography, images, page furniture (headlines, captions etc.), graphs and infographics for features and longer‑form articles, and discuss layout ideas.
- Attend and contribute to Campaign’s video, audio and live content, including working with commercial partners.
- Act as a media spokesperson for the brand and speak at live events, as and when required.
- Previous experience in B2B journalism or at a national news‑led title, including experience of writing and commissioning news, analysis and features.
- Prior experience of coaching/managing others to help develop their news and/or features writing.
- Evidence of idea generation for features tailored to a specialist audience.
- Interest in data journalism and the use of data to tell stories through numbers.
- Knowledge of the advertising, media and marketing sector, its key players and the current issues facing it would be an advantage.
- Experience in public speaking and presenting to audiences.
- Excellent writing, fact‑checking and rewriting skills.
- An ability to balance multiple responsibilities and combine a pipeline of shorter and longer‑form articles.
- A high level of organisational skills in order to manage a varied features list.
- A willingness to travel in the UK and abroad and work outside the standard office hours.
- A good knowledge of media and employment law.
