Job Primary Purpose

To contribute to teaching and learning, research and innovation, engagement, leadership and administration at the discipline, school and faculty levels.

  • Key Performance Areas
  • Leadership – provision of academic leadership in the Agricultural Economics programme(s) and at the module level.
  • Teaching & Learning – provision of theoretically informed, pedagogically sound teaching based on current research.
  • Research – postgraduate supervision at Honours and master's level; production of accredited research outputs; leading to graduation of Masters’ and Doctoral students in minimum time.
  • Engagement – participation in learned societies; application of discipline to benefit external community; engagement activities related to discipline/profession.
  • Highest Qualification
  • Ph D in Agricultural Economics.
  • MSc in Agricultural Economics – preferred.
  • Doctoral qualification or progress towards a Doctoral qualification in Agricultural Economics.
  • Teaching Experience
  • 5 years of facilitation of learning and teaching at university level.
  • Experience as a tutor and teaching experience preferred.
  • Research Experience
  • Good record of research outputs including papers in accredited national and international journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Good record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ level with students publishing.
  • Some evidence of research activity such as published papers or conference attendance.
  • Engagement Experience
  • Participation in Agricultural Economics societies and extensive engagement in the discipline.
  • Application of discipline/professional knowledge to benefit external community.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have some experience with engagement activities.
  • Competencies and Skills
  • Disciplinary Knowledge – in-depth knowledge of theory and application of Agricultural Economics.
  • Leadership – good understanding of leadership and management principles, with well-developed leadership and management skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and understanding of contemporary teaching and learning theories.
  • Teaching & Learning – sound understanding of modern theories of teaching and learning, well-developed teaching skills, and ability to teach online.
  • Research – well-developed research skills and grant writing; supervision of undergraduate and honours degree.
  • Engagement – good understanding of the role of Universities in Engagement and a good record of active participation.
  • Personal Attributes
  • People orientated, hard worker, responsible, reliable, creative and innovative.
  • Respectful, honest, punctual and understand protocol.
  • Proven attributes of transparency, integrity and team work.
