StrideUp is leading a new era of values-driven finance. Ranked the 5th fastest growing fintech in the UK and Ireland in 2025, we have already deployed hundreds of millions in property finance, supporting people in achieving their financial goals. What makes us different is how we combine purpose with performance. We began with home finance, creating a shariah-compliant alternative trusted by the Muslim community and welcomed by anyone seeking fairer, more transparent products. This product-market fit has powered our growth, and is only the beginning. Our vision is bigger; to expand our offering and build a financial institution that opens doors for communities often left behind.

Joining StrideUp means being part of a high-performing, values-driven team at the most exciting point in our journey. We have proven success behind us and a huge opportunity ahead, and now we are ready to build beyond.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role at StrideUp, reporting into our CEO. You will be a key member of the engineering function, playing a critical role in shaping the product journey. A central part of this role is the intelligent use of technology to raise product quality and development velocity. We are looking for an engineer who is highly motivated and driven to improve the efficiency of solving customer pain points. We believe the key to scaling is using technology more intelligently; you will be our internal expert on how we leverage the latest advancements to drive customer experience.

This is not a management role, but it is a role of immense influence, collaborating with a range of stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical reality. You will be at the cutting edge of code production, championing the adoption of AI-supported development and automation where applicable. You aren't just a user of these tools; you have a high level of awareness regarding the benefits and risks of agentic tooling, ensuring we innovate safely and effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Act as a high-impact IC, owning features from ideation to deployment. You’ll write robust, maintainable code across our stack to create seamless journeys for our users.
  • Drive the efficiency of our delivery by identifying bottlenecks and implementing automation or AI-supported workflows to streamline the path from idea to production.
  • Champion and implement the adoption of AI-supported development tools, evaluating their efficacy and ensuring the team understands both the productivity gains and the security/quality risks.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and internal stakeholders to translate commercial objectives into technically sound, deliverable plans that maintain our high standards for quality. You don’t just receive requirements; you challenge them to ensure we are building the most impactful version of every feature.
  • Set and uphold engineering standards across code quality, testing, CI/CD, and architecture, acting as a beacon for technical excellence within the team.
  • Step in on the most challenging deliveries, providing the technical "heavy lifting" required to solve complex architectural or performance issues.

You Are

  • Highly Motivated & Driven – You have an internal engine for improvement. You aren't satisfied with "good enough" and are constantly looking for ways to make our delivery faster and our code higher quality.
  • A Technical Pioneer – You stay at the cutting edge of how software is built today, particularly in how AI can augment the development lifecycle.
  • Pragmatic – You understand the trade-offs between speed and perfection. You make sound decisions under uncertainty and know how to manage technical risk.
  • Self-aware – You understand your strengths, know when to dive deep, and reflect honestly on your own performance and the system’s health.
  • Communicative & Nuanced – You can explain complex technical choices—and the risks/benefits of new tools like AI—to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Trustworthy & Collaborative – You feel a genuine shared responsibility for the success of the whole business, ensuring our technology directly enables ethical financial outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proven Technical Depth: Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Java/Kotlin, NestJS, React, and PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
  • A track record of shipping user-facing features where you played a role in the 'Why' and the 'How'.
  • Infrastructure Fluency: Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Terraform, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • AI-Supported Development: A deep, practical understanding of how to use AI and automation to accelerate code production, with a clear-eyed view of the associated risks (security, hallucinations, maintainability).
  • Quality Obsession: A track record of significantly improving the quality and velocity of delivery in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commercially Minded: Ability to connect technical choices to business outcomes, specifically within the context of ethical finance and regulated environments.

Bonus

  • Previous experience in FinTech, the lending industry, and/or an FCA-regulated firm.
  • Experience with complex financial ledger systems.

Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • 25 days annual holiday
