Role Overview

The BI & Analytics Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining u Med's business intelligence and analytics solutions, enabling teams across the business to access accurate, reliable, and useful information.

The role will primarily work within Zoho Analytics, building and maintaining data preparation processes, data models, query tables, datasets, pipelines, reports, and dashboards to support operational, product, clinical research, and management reporting.

This is a hands‑on role combining BI development with ad hoc data analysis.

The BI & Analytics Developer will work with stakeholders to understand their questions and reporting needs, determine the most appropriate way to address them, and translate those requirements into effective reporting or analytical solutions.

This may range from developing a new dashboard or reusable dataset to performing ad hoc analysis directly against underlying data.

The role requires someone who is comfortable working with data beyond the visualization layer.

They should be able to use SQL to investigate underlying data, understand relationships between datasets and how data moves through reporting solutions, troubleshoot discrepancies, and determine whether issues originate within the BI layer or upstream.

Key Responsibilities

  • BI Development & Data Modeling
  • Design, build, and maintain datasets, reports, and dashboards within Zoho Analytics.
  • Build and maintain data preparation processes, pipelines and other transformations within Zoho Analytics to support reporting and analytics.
  • Create and maintain query tables, using SQL to combine, transform, and prepare data for reporting and analysis.
  • Design and maintain data models within Zoho Analytics, including defining appropriate relationships between tables and selecting the correct relationship fields and cardinality, such as one-to-one and one-to-many relationships.
  • Understand the impact of table relationships and data model changes on calculations, aggregation, and downstream reporting.
  • Develop calculated fields, formulas, filters, and other reporting logic to produce accurate, meaningful outputs.
  • Build clear, intuitive dashboards that enable users to understand and explore data effectively.
  • Develop reusable datasets and reporting solutions where appropriate, reducing duplication and enabling greater self-service across the business.
  • Apply good data modeling, transformation and data management practices when developing BI and analytics solutions, taking into account the structure and limitations of upstream source data.
  • Ad Hoc Analytics & Data Investigation
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to answer business, operational, and research-related questions using available data.
  • Use SQL to interrogate underlying datasets and warehouse data, including where analysis cannot be performed directly within Zoho Analytics.
  • Investigate questions involving multiple data sources, criteria, or patient characteristics and provide accurate, clearly understood results.
  • Determine whether recurring analytical requests are better addressed through a reusable dataset, query table, report, or dashboard, and develop these where appropriate.
  • Investigate discrepancies or unexpected results within reports and dashboards and determine whether issues originate within the BI layer or upstream.
  • Work with the Enterprise Data and Application teams when investigations identify an issue with an upstream data source or when a change is required, ensuring any changes are raised and managed through the appropriate process.
  • Data Quality & Monitoring
  • Regularly monitor BI datasets, data preparation processes, pipelines, scheduled refreshes, reports and dashboards to ensure data remains current and reliable.
  • Proactively identify failed or delayed refreshes, unexpected data volumes, missing data, unusual results, and other potential data quality issues.
  • Investigate identified issues and coordinate with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
  • Implement appropriate data quality checks and monitoring within the BI environment.
  • Ensure reporting outputs continue to reconcile appropriately with their underlying data sources.
  • Validation & Change Management
  • Assess dependencies and downstream impact before modifying existing data models, datasets, query tables, data preparation processes, pipelines, reports or dashboards.
  • Ensure changes do not inadvertently break existing reporting or analytical outputs.
  • Perform appropriate validation following BI changes and releases.
  • Validate relevant BI datasets, reports, and dashboards following upstream releases or data changes that may affect reporting.
  • Identify and communicate issues arising from releases and work with the appropriate team to ensure they are resolved.
  • BI Platform Stewardship & Housekeeping
  • Help maintain a well-structured, reliable, and efficient Zoho Analytics environment in line with agreed standards and best practices.
  • Regularly review datasets, data preparation processes, query tables, pipelines, scheduled imports and syncs, reports and dashboards to identify obsolete, duplicated or inefficient assets.
  • Identify temporary datasets or processes that are no longer required and ensure unnecessary refreshes, syncs or processing are stopped.
  • Streamline inefficient solutions where appropriate, while protecting existing dependencies and outputs.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to the BI environment and ways of working.
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders when making changes that could affect existing reporting or users.
  • Documentation
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for data models, datasets, data preparation processes, query tables, pipelines, reports and dashboards.
  • Document important transformation logic, table relationships, calculations, dependencies, and data sources so that BI solutions can be understood and maintained.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of key metrics and reporting definitions.
  • Ensure documentation is updated when solutions or underlying data structures change.
  • Troubleshooting & Support
  • Troubleshoot BI-related issues including failed refreshes, broken reports, incorrect calculations, and unexpected data.
  • When needed, investigate relevant source or warehouse data in AWS to determine the origin of an issue.
  • Raise and manage support cases with Zoho when issues originate within the Zoho platform, provide appropriate diagnostic information, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Validate fixes and ensure affected reporting is functioning correctly following resolution.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work with stakeholders across Product, Operations, Clinical, Commercial and other areas of the business to understand reporting and analytical requirements.
  • Translate business questions into appropriate datasets, analyses, reports and dashboards.
  • Clarify requirements, definitions, and expected outcomes before developing solutions.
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Data and Application teams to understand available data, data models, source systems, and upstream changes that may affect reporting.
  • Communicate findings and analytical results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience developing reports and dashboards for operational, analytical, and management use.
  • Experience performing ad hoc data analysis to answer business questions.
  • Understanding of good data management practices and the ability to apply them when developing BI and analytics solutions.
  • Ability to investigate data discrepancies systematically and trace issues through different layers of a data solution.
  • Experience modifying existing BI solutions safely, with an understanding of dependencies and downstream impact.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into effective analytical and reporting solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently through complex data questions.
