Location: Midlands

Umbilical Search is working in partnership with an established manufacturing business operating within the construction products sector. The business has a strong market position, high levels of employee engagement, and a reputation for quality and customer service. It is now at a key stage in its development, with a clear focus on continued growth, operational improvement, and sustainability.

As a result, the company is seeking a strategic and commercially focused Managing Director to lead all commercial, operational, and technical functions, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to drive the next phase of growth.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Full P&L responsibility for commercial and manufacturing operations
  • Lead overall business performance across operations, commercial, finance, and technical functions
  • Drive annual business planning, forecasting, and delivery of financial targets
  • Develop and execute long-term strategy, including diversification into adjacent markets
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key construction partners
  • Lead operational excellence across manufacturing, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost KPIs are consistently achieved
  • Drive productivity improvements, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and efficiency initiatives
  • Lead organisational development, succession planning, and leadership capability across the business
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Work closely with stakeholders on integration, reporting, and strategic alignment

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Managing Director, General Manager, Divisional Director or equivalent senior leadership role
  • Strong background in manufacturing environments (industrial, construction supply chain, or engineered products)
  • Experience leading multi-functional operations, including production, commercial, and finance
  • Experience managing key customer relationships in B2B or project-led markets
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing KPIs, cost control, and operational performance
  • Experience leading cultural change and operational improvement initiatives
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budgeting and investment appraisal
  • Degree or relevant manufacturing/engineering background preferred
