I. Major Responsibilities

  • Utilises the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of patient’s care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
  • Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
  • Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
  • Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluates nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
  • Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
  • Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
  • Develops, implements/coordinates and documents Education Plan for patient/family/significant other.
  • Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers.
  • Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies and operates equipment according to policy and procedure.
  • Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
  • Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth.
  • Assists in education and development of staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities

  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

License/Certification/Education Required:

  • Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration.
  • BLS is a requirement for every RN unless advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing highly preferred.

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
  • Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands And Environmental Conditions

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.

License/Certification/Education Addendum for Milford Regional Required:

  • Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration.
  • BLS through either American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is a requirement for every RN within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS through American Heart Association (AHA) required in select areas (Gannett, MP1, ICU, ED, Cath Lab, Endo, IR, PACU, Float Pool) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.
  • PALS through American Heart Association (AHA) required in select areas (PACU, ED) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.
  • NRP Advanced Provider through American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) required in select areas (Maternity) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing highly preferred.
