Position Overview
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Senior Director of Advancement Administration & Finance leads administrative and financial operations within a fast-paced Advancement department that raises $50 million annually from various constituency groups. This senior management role oversees budget development, departmental financial planning, gift records, HR, IT, and facilities management.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage the financial and administrative functions of a 25-person team in the Advancement Office.
- Lead a team including an Associate Director, Manager of Gift Processing & Data Analysis, and a Database Analyst, with responsibilities for performance management.
- Participate as a member of the Advancement Senior Leadership Team.
- Collaborate on strategic planning and implementation across various advancement functions.
- Oversee the implementation of a new Advancement CRM in partnership with the Database Analyst and UMass Foundation.
- Develop and manage the department’s budget.
- Handle HR functions including onboarding, exit processes, recruitment, and staff development.
- Coordinate with UMass Chan’s Office of Financial Services and Grants & Contracts Administration.
- Engage with the UMass Foundation and President’s Office on reporting, endowments, and database management.
- Manage procurement, property, and facilities planning, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
- Oversee gift processing, donor records, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Serve on university committees and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- 10+ years of advancement or related experience, with management experience.
- Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising, especially in complex environments like healthcare or higher education.
- Proven leadership in managing teams and projects.
- Experience with budget development and management.
- Familiarity with Advancement CRMs, including Salesforce and PeopleSoft.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
