Overview
The Department of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2026. The position is in the Public Policy and Public Affairs program within the John W. McCormack School of Policy and Global Studies, College of Liberal Arts at UMass Boston.
Responsibilities
- Teach in the Ph.D. in Public Policy program, the Master’s in Public Administration, and the Master’s in Public Policy programs, as well as undergraduate courses in the field of expertise.
- Develop and maintain an active program of research with evidence of external funding or potential for external funding.
- Contribute to the methods training core and related graduate courses; design diverse course syllabi and teach diverse student populations.
- Engage in policy-relevant, publicly engaged scholarship and collaborate with community-based organizations, nonprofits/NGOs, and government agencies.
- Address issues of racial disparity, gender inequality, and intersectional inequities in teaching and research as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent in a field related to public policy/public affairs by August 31, 2026.
- Degree in applied social sciences is preferred; acceptable fields include public health, health policy, sociology, political science, public policy, public administration, among others.
- Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in health and/or economic inequality by race/ethnicity, disability status, gender, and related factors as they relate to health policy, international development, or a combination of health policy and international development.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research; ability to secure external funding or strong potential to do so.
- Ability to teach in multiple programs and to contribute to graduate and undergraduate curricula; strong research skills.
