Job Description
Eaton MSD Weymouth are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant. The Assistant Management Accountant will support the finance function by providing accurate financial analysis, management reporting, inventory accounting, and cost control within a manufacturing environment. The role will play a key part in delivering timely financial information, supporting operational decision-making, maintaining robust financial controls, and assisting with statutory and audit requirements. The role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to develop their management accounting skills and progress towards a professional accounting qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Manage ERP inventory processes, including investigating stock movements and transfers.
- Complete month-end inventory reconciliations, including data collection, review of supporting documentation, and posting adjustment journals.
- Support year-end processes, including annual standard cost reviews and inventory valuation activities.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Perform cost of sales and production variance analysis, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Produce and analyse labour utilisation reports to support operational efficiency.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by the management team.
Management Accounting
- Process ERP journal entries for labour postings and reconcile payroll control accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual budgets and forecasts.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of key performance indicators (KPIs) and management reports to support management in achieving the company's critical success factors (CSFs).
Compliance & Audit
- Assist in the preparation and review of VAT returns, including Postponed Import VAT Statements and C79 documentation, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements through Making Tax Digital (MTD) platforms.
- Assist the Head of Finance with statutory audit requirements, providing supporting analysis and documentation as required.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Essential
- AAT qualified or currently studying towards an AAT qualification.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, processes, and financial controls.
- Experience supporting management accounting activities, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret, evaluate, and present financial information clearly and concisely with a high level of accuracy.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong general IT proficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently deliver work to agreed deadlines.
Desirable
- Ambition to progress towards a professional accounting qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
- Experience using ERP systems within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis.
