Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their Engineering team. The successful candidate will work independently on routine and complex engineering tasks, exercising personal responsibility and initiative. They will ensure their work complies with engineering standards and participate in design reviews and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare technical documents, design, and develop product data independently, leading design solutions to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Analyze project requirements, derive new requirements, and interface with operations and supply chain to ensure design intent and requirements are met, applying DFM/DFT practices.
  • Lead the preparation and review of engineering estimates and bids, identifying risks and dependencies.
  • Present ideas and proposals effectively to peers, managers, and external reviewers.
  • Collaborate with support functions such as Commercial, Finance, and Supply Chain.
  • Maintain awareness of PLM tools and lead configuration, change management, and documentation security.
  • Lead failure investigations and resolve technical challenges, guiding other engineers.
  • Manage large, complex work packages, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
  • Author complex assemblies, drawings, and models using CAD tools, adhering to standards and coaching junior staff.
  • Design electrical wiring assemblies, work with electronic PCB’s, and influence PCB layouts for mechanical robustness.
  • Perform FEA analysis, understand CFD basics, and coach team members.
  • Design for manufacture, assess technical risks, and communicate effectively on technical issues.
  • Proactively manage own and team’s work to meet objectives, making timely decisions and being financially aware.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with significant experience in complex engineering environments.
  • Eligible for security clearances.
  • Chartered engineer or equivalent preferred.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with PCB & Enclosure design, EMI & EMC considerations.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing, and safety standards like DO-160.
