Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for an Agile Lead Engineer to join the Rapid Technology Concepts team in the Engineering Function. The role of the Rapid Technology Concepts team is to support the sales and engineering teams by exploring and developing new product technologies/ideas in response to customer opportunities, especially where there is uncertainty as to what the customer requires. Through rapid concepting and demonstration of new ideas, the intention is to demonstrate Ultra's agility, validate customer needs and grow the business. Within the Rapid Technology Concepts team, projects will be executed through a combination of core team members (Agile Leads) and other individuals seconded from the engineering team. Projects may be executed by one person, or by a small team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop agile technology concept proposals, drawing on the domain expertise of internal & external stakeholders.
- Deliver prototype solutions, collaborating with the wider business to solve multi-disciplinary problems.
- Work autonomously to achieve engineering objectives on-time, on-quality and on-budget which will directly impact customer relationships.
- Be a thought leader in areas of technical expertise.
- Remain aware of trends and emerging technology, tools and processes.
- Lead projects or technical work packages within the concepts team.
- Write reports and present work undertaken at peer and design reviews.
- Maintain professional competencies required to perform at this level.
- Demonstrate and adhere to the Ultra ASPIRE values (agile, sharing, performing, improving, rewarding, empowering).
- Adhere to Ultra policies, procedures, and practices.
- Occasionally carry out duties off-site as required based on project need.
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by management.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Relevant qualifications to an appropriate level, typically a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in electronics or software product development, with good cross-domain awareness of mechanical, systems, electronics and software engineering.
- Evidence of applying formal knowledge of own discipline in a variety of situations.
- Possess a basic understanding of the industry sector (aerospace or military vehicles) and the latest developments or changes in the market in which the business unit is operating.
- Demonstrable experience of managing work packages or projects within a complex engineering environment.
- Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle.
- Significant experience in producing and reviewing technical documentation (i.e. requirements, procurement, testing).
- A confident communicator, who can guide, influence and convince a broad range of stakeholders at different levels of seniority.
- Responds positively to change and adapts quickly to dynamic situations.
- Thrives on the technical challenge of solving tough problems with high degrees of uncertainty.
