UltraLEDs is creating a new Head of Technical – LED Lighting Products role to provide senior leadership across product quality, electrical compliance, technical evaluation, and technical customer support for our LED lighting range. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring our LED lighting products, power supplies, drivers, and control systems consistently meet the highest standards of safety, quality, compliance, and real-world performance. The role sits at the centre of our product integrity and technical credibility. It requires a senior technical leader with strong experience working with electrical or lighting products, combined with proven team leadership and technical governance capability.

This is a senior technical management and leadership role. We are looking for an experienced technical leader with strong product and market understanding, governance capability, and a proven track record of managing teams in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Governance: Act as the company’s senior authority on the technical performance, suitability, and compliance of our LED lighting products. Own technical standards, policies, and best practice across the business. Provide final technical sign-off on products entering or remaining in the product range and have authority to approve or reject products on technical grounds. Escalate serious or high-risk issues to the IT & Technical Director where appropriate.
  • Product Quality, Compliance & Risk: Oversee and coordinate product quality and compliance across the full LED product range. Ensure adherence to relevant UK and international electrical and lighting standards. Maintain oversight of testing, certification, and compliance documentation, working with internal teams and external partners as required. Monitor changes in the regulatory environment and ensure the business remains compliant. Take ownership of technical and compliance risk including investigation, corrective action, and resolution of significant issues.
  • Product Evaluation & Range Support: Work closely with the product buying team to support the introduction of new products. Lead the technical evaluation of LED lighting products, drivers, power supplies and control systems to ensure they are fit for purpose, compliant, and aligned with customer expectations. Influence product selection and ranging decisions through strong technical insight. Balance speed to market with technical integrity, quality, and compliance.
  • Customer & Sales Technical Support: Oversee the technical support function for customers and internal sales teams. Ensure customers and colleagues receive accurate, practical, and timely technical advice. Support complex or high-value customer projects where appropriate and contribute to, review, and approve technical material published by the company such as guides, blogs or whitepapers.
  • Bespoke Project Specification & Production Flow: Oversee the production of technical specifications and drawings for bespoke customer projects prepared by the technical support team. Ensure specifications are accurate, complete, and suitable for downstream use in in-house assembly and production. Work closely with the production team to ensure technical intent is clearly understood and delivered while identifying opportunities to improve processes and handovers.
  • Supplier & Partner Liaison: Work directly with suppliers and manufacturers on technical and quality matters. Manage relationships with external technical partners and testing laboratories to ensure products meet required technical standards and compliance requirements.
  • People & Resource Management: Directly line manage the quality team and the technical customer support team. Allocate technical resources effectively to meet business demands and develop high-performing teams with a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have a strong background working with electrical or lighting products and a deep understanding of product quality, compliance, and technical governance.

  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience
  • Strong experience with LED lighting or electrical products
  • Experience overseeing product testing, certification, and compliance
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical or quality teams
  • Experience working directly with manufacturers and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of how lighting products are used in real-world installations
Highly Desirable
  • Experience within the lighting industry
  • Knowledge of UK lighting and electrical compliance standards
  • Experience supporting commercial lighting installations or specification projects

Industry Requirement

This role requires experience working with physical electrical or lighting products. Candidates whose experience is primarily in IT infrastructure, software development, or digital systems will not be suitable for this role.
