Job Description
Role Purpose To cover all day to day responsibilities of a service engineer which include the following - To provide a high level of service to customers for their equipment supplied by Ultra.
This includes installation and commissioning and also maintenance, testing and repairs.
Scope
Work within the service team on a wide variety of Ultra products.
Provide customer support with the helpdesk and fault finding; work is both in the office / workshop and at customers' sites and vessels.
Willing to travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas as required.
Flexible approach to working hours and patterns inclusive of overtime and anti-social hours, such as weekends and bank holidays.
Key responsibilities
- Complete scheduled maintenance on Ultra systems in accordance with current maintenance routines.
- Fault diagnosis and repair of Ultra supplied equipment in Aberdeen workshop and onshore/offshore at customer sites, ensure all test procedures and site records are accurately updated.
- Join the Helpdesk rota submitting weekly status reports to customers.
- Join the on-call and standby Engineer rotas.
- Provide technical support and resolve faults on Ultra systems.
- Provide estimates (time & materials) for tasks and deliver to them.
- Escalates problems which are blocking progress of own work.
- Adhere to company practices and policies, especially health and safety and report any issues.
- Responsible for quality and timeliness of own work.
- Manage security of information as defined in the Security policies
- Manage records and arrange for the repair of customer returned items as directed and in accordance to Ultra processes.
- Installation and commissioning of Ultra supplied equipment and systems at customer sites.
- Document all activities including Site Reports, Defect Reports, Delivery Notes and Job Cards.
- Liaise with and provide technical support to other departments such as Projects, Production and Development.
- Writing of technical reports, specifications and test procedures.
- Provision of practical engineering support to other activities within Ultra, where time and priorities permit.
- Plan travel arrangements and maintain records of expenditures for site visits.
- Role requirements
Essential
- Experience installing, maintaining and repairing complex electronic systems in an offshore or marine environment.
- Good understanding of IT, Networks and Software based solutions.
- Methodical approach to problems with good attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Basic skills in wiring and mechanical fitting and use of both bench and hand portable test equipment.
Desirable
- Knowledge of installing, testing and commissioning of electronic equipment and systems.
- Current experience of supporting marine electronic equipment on vessels.
- Experience in maintaining unfamiliar equipment/systems.
- Knowledge of Permit to Work and Risk assessments.
- Supporting equipment at customer premises.
Qualifications / skills required
Essential
- ONC / HNC / HND or Degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or qualified by experience.
- Full driving licence.
- Working at height
- BOSIET Offshore Survival, Medical, MIST
- Ability to obtain SC Clearance
- COMPEX
Desirable
- Formal qualifications in IT / Software or related discipline.
