Eaton Aerospace Group Mission Systems Division (MSD) Precision Control Systems (PCS) is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead critical controls, stores ejection, and data processing value streams across its Cambridge and Cheltenham, UK facilities. The role reports directly to the Director of Engineering, MSD, and focuses on new product development, research & development, and aftermarket programs while collaborating with program management and in‑service support teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a global team of approximately 50 engineering professionals to support current product support, future product development, and customer technical support.
- Manage and execute engineering functions for New Product Introduction, Internal Research and Development, and Aftermarket, alongside support of the In‑Service Support team.
- Organize and build talent within the engineering organization, create growth opportunities, and provide functional leadership for engineering managers and teams.
- Ensure continual improvement of engineering efficiency through organizational management, engineering tools, training, and continuous improvement practices.
- Develop product documentation, design standards, and material specifications collaboratively on a global basis to improve efficiency and enhance corporate image.
- Maintain competitive product designs globally in terms of quality, reliability, and cost.
- Collaborate with Aerospace Group and corporate Centers of Excellence to create seamless product development and execution processes.
- Apply best practices of robust design (Design for Six Sigma, DFSS) and promote an “analysis first” mindset.
- Implement digital processes and experience within the engineering team aligned with Aerospace Group strategy, such as MBD and MBSE.
- Address proprietary rights and product liability concerns in coordination with corporate legal staff.
- Forecast global aircraft system activities and customer plans to identify product opportunities and threats.
- Develop action plans with customers to mitigate impacts of new requirements.
- Establish and execute a global engineering strategy, supporting Best Cost Country growth and productivity.
- Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance, and implement improvements.
- Maintain liaison with customers for application reviews, new product requirements, major modifications, prototype qualification tests, and resolution of product performance deficiencies.
- Establish and maintain contacts with universities for advanced product development and potential hires.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 10 years of experience within aerospace or a high‑tech industry, including new product development and sustaining support.
- Experience conducting competitive analyses and defining/executing business‑level strategy.
- Familiarity with Electronic Control, Data Systems, and Pneumatic systems and/or products is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience with design processes, portfolio and program management, customer strategy, and successful new product introduction.
- Advanced engineering degree or MBA preferred.
- 15 years of experience within the aerospace industry, including experience with Electronic Control, Data Systems, and Pneumatic systems and/or components.
- 8 years of experience leading or managing people (direct or indirect).
- Experience leading or managing a global team.
- Key role in an aerospace‑related professional organization.
- DFSS Greenbelt Certification.
- Ability to work in the UK without restrictions and to undergo UK National Security Vetting.
