Our ILS team provides supportability and support solutions consultancy to Ultra's projects, sales, and technology teams. We maximise our customers' capabilities by ensuring our products are supportable and supported at optimum Whole Life Cost. You will work on our team to ensure that our products are designed to be supportable and are supported anywhere in the world. We will challenge and support you in equal measure to nurture your potential as an engineer and will give you the chance to utilise and build your skills across all of the ILS disciplines, including Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability, Human Factors, Training, Lifecycle Engineering, and Support Solution Design.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorking under the mentorship of the head of Support, you will apply sound engineering judgement to ensure products are developed to be supportable, develop the support solution, and acquire the necessary resources for support. You will be conducting ILS work packages across a number of systems and taking ownership of ILS activities where required. The focus of this role is to ensure the supportability of Ultra Maritime products by helping shape the design for support and helping develop the support solution architecture.
- Tailoring the scope and scale of ILS activities to meet the User, Customer, and Ultra’s requirements.
- Working collaboratively with designers to improve the reliability, maintainability, and usability aspects of Ultra's designs.
- Providing input to the development of the optimum support solution for each customer, within the context of a wider product and capability roadmap.
- Completing life cycle cost analyses, level of repair analyses, sparing analyses, failure modes and effects analyses.
- Eliciting and deriving support requirements and proposing verification methods for requirements.
- Developing supportability cases and conducting analyses to provide progressive assurance of support solutions.
- Performing reliability modelling and undertaking maintainability analysis to optimise support arrangements.
- Assessing the human element of systems, including assessing the potential for human error as a contributor to system failures.
- Preparing, or providing input to, technical manuals such as troubleshooting guides or operations and maintenance manuals.
- Assisting with the identification and mitigation of hazards through system hazard analysis.
- Formulating and implementing the obsolescence strategy for a product line.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of processes, policies, and procedures.
A dynamic, professional engineer or technician with experience within a high technology or regulated industry, you will:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a technical equivalent, or navy, army or air force equivalent in mechanical or electrical, or experience to match.
- Have some knowledge and experience in Reliability & Maintainability – Reliability Prediction, RBDs, FTAs, FMECAs, MTAs, FRACAS/DRACAS, etc.
- Have the ability to review work produced by domain specialists across the others: Integrated Logistics Support – LCC, LORA, sparing, obsolescence, etc.; Operational Analysis & Whole Life Cost Modelling – Business Case Analysis, Availability analysis, etc.; Training Development, Design and Delivery.
- Hold or be capable of achieving Security Clearance (SC) or higher with no caveats.
- Possess a full driving license. This role is office based with occasional travel across Ultra sites and to customer and supplier locations.
- Experience using PTC Windchill, Relyence, or some other modelling software is considered an asset.

This role requires you to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check (BPSS) as a minimum and some roles will require further national security vetting checks. In line with Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
