Responsibilities
- Identify appropriate materials and processes to guarantee product quality, performance and manufacturability.
- Use engineering software and modelling tools to plan, develop and refine mechanical parts or components.
- Communicate conceptual designs and detailed specifications to stakeholders and present findings at peer and design reviews.
- Develop solutions for intermediate‑to‑semi‑complex problems, managing projects on‑time, on‑budget and to the required quality.
- Write reports and provide technical documentation of work performed.
- Offer training and support to new team members.
- Include considerations for safety, environmental protection and compliance in all design stages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
- Relevant work experience or recognised apprenticeship in mechanical design and development.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with CAD and design software.
Security Requirements
The role requires a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check (BPSS) at minimum; certain positions may need further national security vetting. Candidates must provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment/education history for up to three years. Full security clearance may be required for some vacancies.
