The Business Systems Manager is responsible for the management, maintenance, support, and development of business applications, including both bespoke and packaged solutions. This role is accountable for delivering a streamlined operational process for business applications, ensuring effective integration between systems, and collaborating with external development partners and line-of-business application providers to drive efficiency through technology solutions. A key part of the role is understanding business needs to prioritise competing demands and manage expectations effectively.

The Business Systems Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Applications team, ensuring service levels are met, maintaining the availability and reliability of the organisation’s application suite, and implementing new processes as required. This includes managing internal staff and third-party providers responsible for support, monitoring, and issue resolution. They will also contribute to the overall IT strategy, working closely with IT leadership and stakeholders across the business to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support value-driven solutions. This includes improving how the business is supported by the Applications team and external providers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the lifecycle of business applications, ensuring optimal performance, security, and usability
  • Manage maintenance schedules across business applications, working with internal teams and third-party providers
  • Lead, assess, organise, and prioritise work for enhancements, issues, and change initiatives, working with delivery teams and external partners
  • Drive effective ticket management and maximise value from work tracking and change management processes
  • Take ownership of the Change Request process
  • Plan and manage programmes of change, maintenance, testing, and releases in line with business expectations and evolving technology
  • Collaborate with external development partners and application providers to ensure service quality and adherence to agreed standards and processes
  • Provide leadership in application support, troubleshooting, incident management, and issue resolution
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of internal and external resources across competing priorities
  • Oversee integrations between business applications to ensure seamless data flow and functionality
  • Identify opportunities to enhance system efficiency and business processes through technology
  • Work closely with internal teams to translate business requirements into system solutions
  • Partner with stakeholders and delivery teams to scope requirements for new implementations
  • Ensure applications comply with industry regulations and internal security policies
  • Support the development of training materials and user guidance
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Proven experience managing business applications, including bespoke and packaged solutions
  • Strong understanding of application integration and data flow management
  • Experience in vendor and partner management
  • Knowledge of IT security and compliance standards
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience with ERP, CRM, or other enterprise systems
  • Project management experience
