About the Role

The research team have secured funding from Invest Northern Ireland (INI) for the commercial development of a smart wearable device that can monitor the condition of ostomy pouch systems. A 12-month, full-time position for a researcher with skills in electronic/electrical engineering is available to help pursue the design, development and testing of prototype devices in preparation for its evaluation in patient trials. This is a cross-disciplinary project involving collaboration with both clinical and commercial partners and will involve public-patient interactions throughout the design process. While largely based in Belfast, the post may require travel between the Belfast, Coleraine and Derry~Londonderry campuses, as well as site visits to the collaborating partners.

About You

  • BEng / MEng (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • Experience of circuit design, testing, and the use of microcontrollers.
  • Experience in the design and development of devices with wireless communication capability.
  • Evidence of research outputs commensurate with stage of career in medical/materials/engineering conferences or journals.
  • The willingness to travel to meet the needs of the role and work outside normal office hours, on occasion to meet the needs of the role.
