The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on the AHRC-funded CoSTAR Screen Lab project. CoSTAR is a UKRI-funded £75.6m program, and the Screen Lab is a specially designed 6,500 ft squared space equipped with LED, Motion Capture, 4D Scanning, 5G mobile and fixed networks located at the heart of the new Studio Ulster facility in Belfast Harbour Studios. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team, in collaboration with academic co-investigators and industry partners and will support Ulster University/Studio Ulster in delivering the Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) programme for the CoSTAR Screen Lab. They will have the opportunity to work within high-tech environments in Studio Ulster and Ulster Virtual Production Studio to configure, test, and optimise 5G networks that enable innovative creative industry applications.
We may create a 12‑month waiting list for same or similar roles within the Department / Faculty. The University reserves the right to extend the waiting list across the University if required for certain posts.
About You
The postholder will be required to have:
- Undergraduate degree with a 2:1 qualification or higher in a technical discipline such as Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication or Computer Science.
- Research experience or equivalent professional experience in relevant areas, such as 5G/6G, 5G network configuration and testing, real-time communications, data streaming over wireless networks, etc.
- Experience with 5G network development, end‑to‑end performance evaluation and an understanding of related concepts, e.g., modulations, antenna, physical and other layers, etc.
