The Asbestos Surveyor at UL Solutions is responsible for carrying out asbestos testing, inspection, and surveying activities within buildings or defined areas, under normal conditions and occupancy. The role requires the accurate collection, analysis, and reporting of data to support clients in effectively managing asbestos in compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012), while maintaining UL Solutions' quality, environmental, and confidentiality standards.
Fieldwork and Survey Execution
- Conduct asbestos surveys efficiently, safely, and professionally in occupied and unoccupied buildings.
- Analyse building construction, materials, and operational use to determine appropriate surveying and sampling strategies.
- Collect samples and data using approved UL Solutions methods, procedures, and test equipment.
- Ensure all site activities minimise environmental impact and comply with company environmental and quality procedures.
Reporting and Documentation
- Collate survey data accurately to support objective and comprehensive reporting.
- Prepare clear, technically accurate client reports to a competent professional standard.
- Support report production and, where workload allows, assist in the preparation and finalisation of client documentation.
Equipment and Time Management
- Maintain, calibrate, and care for UL Solutions test instruments and equipment.
- Effectively manage working time across office, site, and home environments to maximise productivity and service delivery.
Training, Compliance, and Professional Development
- Operate in full compliance with the UL Solutions training policy, including internal and external training, reviews, authorisation, and record keeping.
- Progress toward Lead Surveyor authorisation following a successful competency review with the Operations Manager.
- Maintain Continual Professional Development (CPD) in line with UL Solutions requirements.
Qualifications
- Academic background in Engineering or Science, educated to college or degree level.
- Industry qualification: P402.
- Proven knowledge of building construction and materials.
- Strong technical understanding of asbestos testing equipment and survey instruments.
- Experience conducting UL Solutions field building surveys or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Ability to follow technical direction from senior personnel and work effectively as part of a team.
- Professional approach when dealing with clients, including handling sensitive or confidential information.
- Sound general knowledge of legislation relevant to UL Solutions services.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical and environmental expertise.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English.
- Right to work in the UK at the time of application.
