UL Solutions is a leading management and technical consultancy to the renewable energy industry, with a diverse client portfolio including many of the world's leading energy developers and investors. We are currently seeking a Business Development Specialist to grow our offshore advisory business globally.
As a member of the business development and sales organization, you will be responsible for expanding our offshore technical advisory business and footprint among developers, investors, and supply chain companies in this space. While the role will be located in the UK (ideally), this position will be responsible for global offshore client growth strategy.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and expand UL Solutions relationships with offshore advisory renewable customers including developers, utilities, asset owners, operators as well as investors and lenders.
- Engage with potential developers, investors, and supply chain companies to understand their development plans and identify potential areas for support and opportunities.
- Promote our offshore advisory capabilities with our existing and new potential customers including Technical Advisory support for M&A transactions, Energy Advisory and Asset Advisory related services, among others.
- Define business growth plans and go-to-market strategies, in collaboration with the business Global Offshore Advisory Services Director.
- Identify prospective new customers and work with technical leads to establish positive business relationships with them.
- Participate in proposals detailing a clearly defined scope and understanding of client required deliverables and establishing a corresponding budget that satisfies the clients' expectations.
- Support proactive sector and client strategy development.
- Conduct market, client and opportunity specific analyses as required.
- Attend conferences, webinars and events to promote UL Solutions brand and services and develop client relationships.
- Offshore wind projects opportunity identification and development.
- Work with the wider sales team and directors to identify potential clients and leverage existing relationships to foster new offshore opportunities.
- Proactively engage with clients to understand and develop opportunities, including responding to RFPs, RFQs and PQs.
- With a focus on offshore wind managing and technical services lead on pipeline development and manage opportunities through to contract signing.
- Support the development of the proposal and delivery to the potential client.
- Manage monitoring and logging of opportunities and won jobs in UL Solutions project management software to ensure these provide an accurate record of status.
- Ongoing customer relationship management.
- Build regional client account plans and track news flow related to these clients to enable proactive engagement.
- Lead or support meetings with clients and over time lead engagements with appropriate level clients as part of client engagement strategies.
Qualifications
- University degree qualification. Project management qualifications (engineering or otherwise) will be beneficial.
- At least 5 years' experience in the offshore wind market with focus on UK/EU market.
- Strong understanding of the offshore wind advisory services scopes (including management consulting, transaction and asset advisory) and market competitive dynamics and customer dynamics.
- Deep knowledge of the UK and European Offshore wind markets, clients and supply chain. Secondary understanding of APAC and NA Offshore wind markets, clients and supply chain.
- Demonstrable track record of effective client engagement, opportunity management, business development, proposal drafting.
- Working understanding of offshore wind advisory services scopes and offshore wind technology.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, planning and time management. Ability to deliver against tight deadlines and work with a potentially diverse and dispersed team to deliver outputs to the necessary quality standards and schedule. Attention to detail is critical to succeed in this role.
- Commercially inquisitive and determined to get results - able to turn sometimes unstructured input into a business case and work with an initiative owner to develop and improve this.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and to handle sensitive information.
- Personable and team oriented: able to quickly build relationships across the group and with external third parties and develop junior or less experienced resources.
- Self-starter and can-do attitude: Ability to plan and demonstrate progress with little supervision and against potential challenges, proven ability to work under pressure.
