At Groundwork Yorkshire, we believe in “Changing places, changing lives.” We are looking for an enthusiastic, action-oriented Countryside Ranger to join our West Yorkshire Communities Team and help us build environmental and community resilience.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Countryside Ranger, you won’t just be managing land; you’ll be a vital link between nature and the community. You will assist in the management of three beautiful country parks—Fryston Country Trails, Canard and Frackley Country Park—ensuring they remain safe, vibrant, and welcoming spaces for everyone.
Basis: Permanent, Part-time (22.5 hours per week)
Location: Based at Fryston Country Trails, Castleford, with travel across our three sites.
Benefits: 25 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus statutory days, with a flexible Flexi and TOIL system to support your work-life balance.
YOUR IMPACT
Your work will directly contribute to our mission of creating healthier habitats and more connected communities. You will:
- Restore & Protect: Undertake practical site maintenance and conservation work to boost biodiversity and monitor local flora and fauna.
- Empower People: Support and supervise volunteers and locals, helping them gain new skills and a deeper connection to nature.
- Inspire the Next Generation: Work with schools and community groups to deliver exciting outdoor learning and environmental education.
- Be the Face of the Parks: Promote site achievements through social media and events, ensuring our visitors feel safe, informed, and inspired.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who is grounded, empathetic, and ready to take practical action.
- A relevant qualification in environmental management (degree level or equivalent) or significant practical experience in the field.
- Experience working with volunteers and undertaking community engagement activities.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, “can-do” attitude.
- A full driving licence and a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers.
- An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
- Machinery tickets.
- Experience delivering outdoor education for children and young people.
