UKROEd is seeking an experienced, strategic and influential communications professional to join the organisation as Head of Corporate Communications. This is a worthy opportunity for an individual who can shape and lead a high-performing communications function, strengthen organisational reputation and drive meaningful engagement with key stakeholders across the road safety, policing and wider public sector landscape.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful postholder will play a critical role in developing and delivering UKROEd’s corporate communications strategy. The role is central to ensuring the organisation’s messaging is clear, consistent, proactive and aligned to business priorities, while supporting long-term reputation, visibility and impact.

About the Role

As Head of Corporate Communications, you will lead all aspects of strategic communications activity across the organisation. This includes media relations, reputation management, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, digital channels, branding and content development.

You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and business leads to ensure communications effectively support operational delivery, strategic objectives and external partnerships. You will also collaborate with communications colleagues across The Road Safety Trust to align messaging and maximise wider sector impact where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications & Leadership
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate communications strategy with measurable outcomes.
    • Raise UKROEd’s profile nationally across the road safety sector, media and stakeholder community.
    • Provide senior-level advice to leadership on communications opportunities and risks.
    • Lead, develop and mentor the communications function to deliver high performance.
  • Media Relations & Reputation Management
    • Manage proactive and reactive relationships with national, regional and trade media.
    • Develop key messaging, press releases and briefing materials for senior leaders.
    • Act as the lead adviser on reputational risk and public confidence issues.
    • Protect and enhance UKROEd’s brand and public profile.
  • Crisis Communications & Business Continuity
    • Develop and maintain crisis communications plans, protocols and readiness processes.
    • Provide expert advice during sensitive or high-profile incidents.
    • Ensure communications response aligns with wider business continuity planning.
  • Digital Communications & Innovation
    • Oversee digital communications activity including website and social media channels.
    • Lead development of engaging digital content strategies and webinar programmes.
    • Work with project teams on the development of a new UKROEd website.
    • Identify modern, innovative approaches to improve reach, engagement and effectiveness.
  • Internal Communications & Corporate Reporting
    • Lead internal communications activity to support employee engagement and alignment.
    • Oversee production of key corporate publications including the Annual Report and D&I Report.
    • Ensure communications are inclusive, accessible and aligned to organisational values.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Events
    • Build strong relationships with police forces, course providers and strategic partners.
    • Lead communications planning for major events including the NPCC Roads Policing Conference.
    • Represent the organisation at national and local events where required.
  • Governance, Insight & Performance
    • Establish KPIs and evaluation frameworks to measure communications impact.
    • Use insight, data and audience analysis to improve delivery.
    • Prepare reports for the Board and committees covering performance, risk and budget activity.

The ideal candidate will bring significant senior-level communications leadership experience, with a strong track record of delivering impactful corporate communications strategies in complex environments. You will demonstrate:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong media handling and crisis communications experience.
  • Confidence advising senior leaders and Boards.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • Strategic thinking with strong delivery focus.
  • Experience managing suppliers, agencies and external partners.
  • Resilience, judgement and discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Experience within policing, transport, road safety, public sector or not-for-profit environments would be highly advantageous.
