Salary: £26,437 per annum | Open-ended | Full-time (12-hour shifts) | Closing date: 1st June 2026

Plus additional shift allowances:

  • SDA (Shift disturbance allowance) 25% percentage of basic salary
  • FSDA (Further shift disturbance allowance) 26.73% of basic salary
  • First Aid allowance (after training)

Shift Pattern: (2 x 12hr day shifts followed by 2 x 12hr night shifts, followed by 4 x rest days)

Location: Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington, Cheshire WA4 4AD

About the Role

Reporting to the Deputy Facilities Manager, you’ll be part of a Security Team delivering a 24/7 service to staff, tenants, contractors, and visitors from across the UK and internationally. The role includes front-of-house duties such as processing visitors and contractors and liaising with site hosts. You will also carry out regular patrols of the site and external buildings, both on foot and using a site security vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a highly visible and professional 24-hour security service to all site users.
  • Ensuring compliance with security procedures, policies and procedures and promote a strong culture of safety and compliance.
  • Control access to the site, verifying personnel and vehicle credentials.
  • Operate security control desk functions, including monitoring video surveillance systems, alarm systems, emergency phones, and internal safety alarms.
  • Act as an onsite first-aid responder as required (training and/or re-training will be provided as necessary).
  • Monitor incoming emails and responding accordingly. Manage visitor/contractor access, issuing passes and parking permits as required.
  • Support reception duties, calls, and general enquiries as required.
  • Manage site parking for events and erect barriers and cones as required.
  • Conduct regular internal and external patrols of buildings and perimeters to deter/detect and report either on foot or using site vehicles.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents such as fire, first aid and intrusions in accordance with the site emergency plan, supporting emergency teams and external emergency services as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and incident reports as required.
  • Flexibility to cover shifts, including holidays and short-notice absences.

Essential shortlisting criteria

  • Experience of working in professional security role (or police or military experience).
  • Experience working 12-hour shifts.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
  • NVQ/Level 2 Certificate in Public Services (Uniformed) or Security, or Level 2 Certificate in security services (e.g. City & Guilds “Providing Security Services” Certificate).
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Flexible and reliable approach to shift work.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices.
