We are now seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to join our team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroller to take the next step in their career.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of staff to deliver high‑quality payroll services, promoting an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
- Oversee the end‑to‑end processing of complex, high‑volume payrolls across multiple public sector clients and terms and conditions.
- Ensure full compliance with HMRC regulations, pension scheme rules and audit requirements.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of payroll legislation and public sector pay policy.
- Maintain robust internal controls and support external and internal audits.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures and knowledge resources.
- Foster and develop a proactive and customer‑centric approach to service delivery, including delivering high‑quality end‑user experiences.
- Be the first point of contact for complaints and escalations via Customer Support Services, providing advice in line with policy and best practice.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with fellow Team Leads, internal stakeholders, 3rd parties and clients to deliver seamless end‑to‑end service.
- Lead the team through change, building and supporting a resilient team.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, driving process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in payroll and shared services and ability to prioritise own and team workload in a fast‑paced environment to meet deadlines and SLAs.
- Experience of leading and developing a small‑to‑medium team.
- First‑class oral and written communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- High level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience of problem‑solving and decision‑making in a fast‑paced environment.
- Demonstrates and fosters a strong customer service orientation.
- Process improvement mindset.
- Proficient in HR systems (Oracle, Workday).
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Maths and English GCSE, grade A‑C or equivalent experience.
- Ability to explain payroll information to non‑payroll colleagues and end users.
- CIPP qualification or equivalent level of payroll experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of payroll best practice.
- Experience in management of third‑party suppliers.
