UKSBS provides shared business services across HR, Payroll, Finance, Procurement and IT to public sector organisations. Our Pension Programme sits at the heart of our transformation agenda and delivers change that directly impacts thousands of employees across the public sector.
We are now seeking a Project Manager to support the delivery of complex pension-related change initiatives. This is a key role within our Corporate Delivery Directorate, offering the opportunity to lead high-impact projects that strengthen governance, improve systems, and enhance the experience of scheme members and stakeholders. You do not need prior pensions experience to succeed in this role — strong project management capability and a passion for delivering change are what matter most, although pensions knowledge would be advantageous.
The role involves leading the end-to-end delivery of one or more projects or workstreams within the Pension Programme, ensuring effective governance, stakeholder engagement and delivery of agreed outcomes. This includes managing dependencies across systems, suppliers, internal teams and client organisations in a complex public-sector environment.
The duties of this role will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead the successful delivery of assigned pension-related projects or workstreams from initiation through to transition into live service
- Establish and maintain clear project governance, plans and reporting aligned to UKSBS standards
- Manage project schedules, risks, issues, dependencies, finances and change control
- Engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, clients, suppliers and delivery partners
- Lead and motivate matrix-managed project teams, supporting high performance and accountability
- Ensure pension projects meet regulatory, audit and compliance expectations
- Provide clear updates, advice and recommendations to project and programme boards
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of delivery practices
To do this role well, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Strong working knowledge and practical experience of recognised project management frameworks, disciplines and methodologies such as Agile, SAFe, PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile or Managing Successful Programmes
- Understanding of people change management implications, techniques and best practice, with the ability to support change adoption effectively
- A broad range of technical, business and commercial knowledge relevant to complex organisational change
- Sound understanding of risk management, including techniques for identifying, assessing and managing risk throughout the project lifecycle
- Effective negotiation and influencing skills, with the confidence to operate at mid-management and departmental level, including engagement with clients and suppliers
- Proven ability to apply stakeholder management tools and techniques to maintain alignment and manage expectations
- Demonstrable experience of leading change through the full project lifecycle, from initiation through to delivery and transition into live service
- Experience managing complex change projects involving multiple workstreams, dependencies and stakeholders
- Confidence using project delivery tools such as Jira and MS Project
- Experience delivering projects within an Agile environment
- Experience of ERP or other complex IT systems delivery would strengthen your application
- Knowledge of business processes and the core principles underpinning IT systems would be beneficial
- Experience of service organisations and the technologies that support them would be advantageous
- Understanding of different business functions and the commercial drivers of third-party organisations
- Knowledge or practical experience of Business Analysis techniques
